Can we discuss the name? Blue Ivy.
I read Blue = after Jay-Z's album; Ivy is supposedly for 4, Beyonce's favorite number (Roman numeral "IV"). Weird, IMO.
I am most bothered by the fact that the two names "go together"--like the first name is an adjective and the middle name is a noun. Not a fan.

She had a scheduled c-section, but I'm sure they could've spent $1.3 million and had an operating room built in their home. HA! I agree with you, Emily, they could've really impacted others (seems as though they did according to some reports). Lame.

I know, I read an article on Facebook this morning (Emma posted) about how their presence at the hospital was interrupting other families there. I was trying to figure out if that is typical when celebrities give birth, or if this is just more high-profile/covered in the media because it is Beyonce in NYC and all.
And, this sounds super judgey, but I always wonder what the deal is with "scheduled c-sections" with celebrities. I know that in the general population, most doctors would not do a scheduled c-section unless there was medical reason to do so, but with "diva" celebrities, I just... wonder. Like, could you even imagine Beyonce being willing to try to go through labor and actually push out a baby?

Heather, I'll admit that I totally assumed she was part of the "too posh to push" crowd. So, I was being judgey too. Maybe the baby was breech? Who knows.

No, celebrities hire people to do things like that for them
. Or, you know, have major surgery because that is more convenient/leaves her vag intact/is less work. (assuming there was no medically necessary reason for her c-section, that is)
According to internet gossip, word on the street is that it was a "too posh to push" c-section. Sad. I know that every woman has the right to choose her birth experience, but it just makes me sad that so many little girls looks up to her and they are hearing all of this.

2. Blue Ivy shall be added to the ever growning list of dumb-ass celebrity baby names. These people think they are being unique or creative but really, they're selfish and as unpersonal as they come.
3. Didn't know about "renting" the maternity ward for 1.3 MIL until I read it hear. Just says selfish diva, clearly she lost her down to Earth card.
Super true! I didn't mean to overgeneralize, I'm just saying that I think a lot of diva-ish celebrities would have a c-section just 'cause. And it's a great point that it was probably scheduled so she could essentially "rent" the entire maternity ward, set up security, etc. Still ridiculous though--just be a normal person for five minutes and have a baby like us "little people" (whether that turns out to be vaginally or cesarean)!

oh, oh, oh! I just read this:
"And to update (via E online, link in the post) ?
Beyonce and Jay-Z have made an official announcement:
Hello hello Baby Blue!
We are happy to announce the arrival of our beautiful daughter, Blue Ivy Carter, born on Saturday, January 7, 2012. Her birth was emotional and extremely peaceful, we are in heaven. She was delivered naturally at a healthy 7 lobs and it was the best experience of both of our lives. We are thankful to everyone for all your prayers, well wishes, love and support.
-Beyonce & Jay Z"
Hmmmm? Does this mean there was no c-section? And, if there wasn't a c-section I'm assuming labor still had to induced in order for them to coordinate the renting of the hospital floor. This is getting juicy! ;-)

Well, now. I just saw the same statement on People.com, and the article went on to say their statement dispelled rumors that the birth was via scheduled cesarean.
I suppose I owe my deepest apologies to Beyonce for doubting her.

Just saw this too & makes me so happy.... I secretly love her & Jay-Z
Not such a fan of the name though, I agree with pp that Ivy Blue would have been much better! Definitely curious to see/hear more the details though as they emerge....
SO glad to hear that she wasn't in the "too posh to push" crowd! However, I'm saddened to hear that a father was denied seeing his NICU twins multiple times due to the hired security for the maternity ward. Being a celebrity DOES NOT make your baby and seeing your baby more important than someone else's right to see their babies. That really pissed me off, and I would be outraged if I were those parents.
I think the name Blue is ridiculous. Doesn't help that I've known about 4 dogs with that name (not including the Nickelodeon dog of Blue's Clues fame.) Ivy is for the number 4, like you said-- they got married on the 4th and both of their birthdays are on the 4th of the month, so I actually consider that pretty cool.
I completely agree.
I like the name Ivy and could even handle Ivy Blue, but Blue as a first name is hideous.
