The Jacksonville Jaguars have hired Falcons offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey as head coach, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.
General manager Gene Smith led the Jags' search for a new coach after outgoing owner Wayne Weaver fired coach Jack Del Rio on the same late November day that he announced he was selling the team.
Interim coach Mel Tucker took over and made significant changes, cutting starting receiver Jason Hill, firing receivers coach Johnny Cox and reassigning quarterbacks coach Mike Sheppard.
The Jaguars (5-11) went 2-3 under Tucker, probably not enough for him to get the full-time job.
Mularkey's Falcons managed only two points in a wild-card loss to the New York Giants on Sunday.
He previously was a head coach with the Buffalo Bills, where he went 14-18 before being fired after the 2005 season. He has been Atlanta's offensive coordinator since 2008, helping mentor quarterback Matt Ryan. That likely weighed heavily in his favor in Jacksonville, where the Jaguars are trying to get more out of rookie Blaine Gabbert.
Mularkey interviewed with Tennessee and Cleveland last season.

I don't know how to feel about it. I get the rookie quarterback development part, but... IDK. He just doesn't have any sort of impressive anything other than that.
So now we have a horrible rookie quarterback, an unknown head coach with very little head coaching experience (with a losing record when he was head coach), and a sh!tty GM. Again... *sigh*
That's EXACTLY what I was thinking...
