Little Rock, Arkansas or St. Louis?

As part of my effort to get to 40 states by the time I am 40, we are trying to take long weekend trips to some surrounding states.  I am interested in visiting the Clinton Library, but I am wondering what else there might be to do that is fun or is this the kind of place to do as we are passing through to another location?  We are torn between Little Rock and St. Louis for our next trip.

Re: Little Rock, Arkansas or St. Louis?

  • I live in St. Louis. I LOVE it. There is a LOT to do here, much of it free. St. Louis has the most free attractions of anywhere in the  US other than Washington, DC. If you have questions about it, let me know.
I twitter randomly about gardening, sustainable living, local restaurants, cooking and more. Follow me on Twitter at Sarah_STL
  • St. Louis! I lived there for three years and miss it so much. Great free museums, a zoo, fabulous restaurants, pro sports, farmer's markets, etc. etc.

  • STL is mt hometown, so that's my vote. :)

Lots and lots to do. Visit the Soulard area, and maybe Central West End, and downtown.

The zoo is great. Also, the Arch, City Museum, Budweiser brewery tour...

  • St Louis - you MUST go to The Hill for some yummy italian food!  Zia's is our favorite, their side salad and house dressing are to die for!

  • I vote St. Louis. I would go there just to visit the City Museum again. It is such a fun place.

  • St Louis. So many more things to do there.

I just spent  the night in Little Rock as part of our quest for all 50 states.  There is not really that much to do there.  We visited the Clinton Library, which was the most exciting part, but could be done passing through.

If you do go, one of my favorite parts of the whole trip was seeing the Old Mill.  It is shown in the credits of Gone With the Wind and is the only existing structure from the movie.  I loved seeing it, but I love that movie.

We stay at The Empress of Little Rock, which was nice, but I probably would not stay there again.

We had great BBQ at Whole Hog Cafe- it was scary from the parking lot, but really great BBQ.  We also had a steak dinner at Sonny Williams Steakhouse- Meh.

We also visited Hot Springs at the rec of another poster and even though we only passed through, I enjoyed it more than Little Rock.  There were many things to do.  Though it has one section that is really touristy.

    Happy Travels.

  • Thanks ladies... St. Louis it is.  We love to try new restaurants, so, thanks for some recommendations and I have heard great things about the city museum.  Now to find a hotel that is dog friendly.  We have nowhere to leave our little mutt. :)
