Baltimore visit this weekend - recommendations?
Hi everyone!
DH and I are going to Baltimore for the weekend. Any recommendations for places to go, restaurants, etc?? I've done a lot of research, but I've always had attest luck with nestie recommendations. We're up for anything and everything - though we're foodies and love to eat!
Thanks!!!
Re: Baltimore visit this weekend - recommendations?
What are you into? Museums? Tours? Outdoor stuff? What kind of food are you interested in?
Little Italy has some good restaurants (Germano's is my favorite), and Vaccaros is known for their desserts. There's also an Indian joint there, India Rasoi, that I adore. If you want to go a bit further afield, Samos in Greektown is a blast and has great food (BYOB). For upscale, there's always places like Charleston. Almost every place in town will get you a crab cake if you want one. I think Sotto Sopra is still around.
Our little Irish rose came to us on March 5, 2010
Don't drink the water.

If you love to eat you better try crabs - whole and cakes! In Baltimore, there is Faidley's at Federal Hill (Lexington Market to be exact). I have not made my way there for crabcakes but I hear it's out of this world. If you're going to be outside of Baltimore, I can give you some personal recs. For whole crabs, there's Obrycki's, although I think it's only opened seasonally. The Ravens will be playing this Sunday so the city should be crazy fun. Obviously the Inner Harbor is always a nice stop. The aquarium is a MUST.
Definitely post on the Local Baltimore board if you haven't. The girls there can give you plenty more suggestions!
Where are you staying?
Obrycki's is now closed (permanently.) If you want crabs, I'd try LP Steamers in Locust Point in South Baltimore. Good crabs and decent prices - but keep in mind you aren't going to get fabulous crabs in January.
Faidley's has good crab cakes, as does Patrick's of Pratt Street by the B&O Museum (which deems itself the oldest Irish bar in America, not sure how accurate that is ha.)
Cross Street Market in Federal Hill is a fun stop for seafood and for some "local flavor."
Annabell Lee Tavern in Fells Point is good, and I've never been but have heard awesome things about Salt Tavern. Blue Grass Tavern in Federal Hill/South Baltimore is also amazing. Miguel's in Silo Point has good Mexican food, a "hip" ambience (for Baltimore anyway ha) and is pretty reasonably priced. We recently went to Amicci's in Little Italy which people love and we were not disappointed. Pazo is an amazing tapas restaurant in Harbor East (I should clarify all these neighborhoods that I'm mentioning are within a 10 - 15 minute radius).
I agree with all of these recommendations! Where are you staying? Will you have a car or will you be relying on public transportation?
Federal Hill - Regi's American Bistro on Light Street is one of my favorites, they have great food for every meal. Spoons is a great coffee house and they have solid breakfast choices. There are shops around Federal Hill that are nice to browse. Check out Alexandra Webb jewelry on Charles Street for unqiue pieces. If you are around for the Ravens game Sunday, Mother's on Charles Street will be packed with Ravens fans watching the game, which is fun if you are into that. You can venture over to Locust Point and check out Fort McHenry. A new visitor center was built last year, and you can just walk around most of the fort for free.
Fells Point - another area good for walking around and shopping. Bond Street Social is a newer restaurant that's nice. Black Olive and Kali's Court are delicious restaurants for a nice (not cheap) night out. Thames Street Oyster House is new and gets good reviews. You can go to Bertha's, which is a more well known (they have bumper stickers that say Eat Bertha's Mussels) but the food is nothing amazing. Lots of places along Thames and Broadway streets to check out. Su Casa is a home store that has a lot of cute stuff.
Canton - Mama's on the Half Shell and Nacho Mama's are popular and tasty restaurants. The notorious thing to get at Nacho Mama's is the hubcap magarita. Langermann's is also pretty good. Not much as far as shopping in Canton, but a number of bars and restaurants. There is also a park along the water and you can look across and see Fort McHenry and Tide Point (home of Under Armour)
Mt Vernon - B & O Brasserie is good (more south of Mt Vernon), Marie Louise Bistro, Sammy's Trattoria (they have the most delicious meatballs I've ever had), Walters Art Museum
Harbor East/Little Italy - LOVE Cinghiale, although some people don't like it because they are expecting traditional, huge portion Italian, Teavolve is good for brunch or lunch...
I could go on forever about Baltimore restaurants, but I need to get to bed! Apologies for any incomplete sentences or typos... I am not proofreading before posting bc I am so tired.
