Anyone else already thinking about gardening?

I've found myself daydreaming about planting soon, even though I know its several months away! This year I plan to plant more lettuce, different types and planting them in "heats" so I have a steady crop. I am also wanting to plant cucumbers this year, last year we didn't have enough room where I planted at my SIL's. I won't bother with carrots again, we didn't even use them most of the time, and maybe a few different types of tomatoes instead of the same type across the board.

How about you ladies?

Re: Anyone else already thinking about gardening?

  • Yes!  My BFF is moving into a new house with a huge yard so we're co-oping on her garden.  I need to start thinking about plants so we can decide if we need to start anything indoors.

I know for sure we'll have tomatoes, peppers (serranos, poblanos, green bell, pepperoncini), onions, squash, eggplant, watermelon, pumpkin, cucumbers, and herbs.

I'd like to try sweet potatoes but I've never done them.

  • Between the two of us we usually plant corn, asparagus (already there), lettuce, herbs, green beans, peas, tomatoes, bell peppers, hot peppers, etc. I'd like to plant some watermelons this year but she said no that they were too hard to grow.

I may talk her into it anyways. :) I am definitely trying cucumbers this year though, I love them and they grow well in the climate here I think.

  • No, but now that you mention it I will!  We've been trying to decide whether to take the plunge and list our house, which would affect how much of a garden we plant.....I feel like we've been trying to decide whether to list for well over a year, though.  lol.  So we'll probably just be here and do the usual :)

  • Yes, I think my soil needs a break after 9 years of gardens even though I rotate my crops, add soil, manure, etc. Ours will be very cut back and simple this year and maybe something completely different to help the soil.
  • ughh my crazy neighbor's trees have almost completely blocked the sun for most of the morning light so our garden is very hard to grow anything besides peppers.  It makes me really sad because I grew up on a farm where we planted and ate everything (my parents are probably still eating potatoes that they harvested this fall).

P.S. Watermelons are very hard to grow, you almost need a slight hill b/c of drainage issues *much like pumpkins*

  • I have totally been planning this week.  My IL's just bought a new house with a HUGE backyard and my FIL is SO excited about gardening.  I have been a crazy Pinterest gardening fool the past couple days.
