Christening gift for godchild
Help! My cousin asked me to be the godmother for his daughter, and I'm completely clueless about what to do. The christening is in a month and I have no idea what I should be getting her.
I am NOT Catholic or remotely religious, so this is way out of my comfort zone. Suggestions?
P.S. Buying her a cross is not really high on my list, but I will do that if it's what makes the most sense.
Re: Christening gift for godchild
My gift to my godson was his christening outfit, his godfather made a donation to the church as his gift. My sister & BIL did the same for my daughter when H & I asked them to be our daughter's godparents.
For my goddaughter's christening, I got her a bracelet with her name on it (etsy) and I bought her gown which was 150 I think. This was my best friend's daughter so I didn't mind spending a bit more.
The kid's godparents offered to pay for his outfit but I had already purchased it. I think they both gave gifts of 100 in a card and my sister (his godmother) also got him a baptism pin to wear on hs outfit.
I always thought the godparents contributed to the cost of the christening outfit or purchased it for the baby. When DH christened his niece, he bought her a gold cross, and the godmother bought the dress. Even if you are not Catholic, if you have a St. Jude Shop nearby, they often have lots of nice items.
When my sister was christened (she is a lot younger than me), I remember her godparents also bought her a baby blanket that was embroidered with her name, etc. It was very pretty.
We gave our goddaughter a cross necklace and a savings bond.
L's godmom gave her a pearl bracelet with a little Mary medallion on it and her godfather gave her a medallion pin and a jewelry box.
i gave my godchild a gc for an at home photography session. he is a twin and with 2 kiddos plus the older sister i figured family pictures at a portrait place would be darn near impossible. the pics turned out great and the parents loved them (it was probably around $300).
ds got a gold cross and $100 in a card from his godfather and the coolest radio flyer red wagon with a canopy from his godmother. she saw it at the zoo with me and we both thought the thing was awesome. she also got him a wagon book to go with it.
For my Godson (my nephew), I purchased his christening outfit - these can be found at stores such as a St. Jude Shop, and I have also seen some in Babies r us. I don't remember the exact amount, but I want to say about $100.
My nephew was unplanned/unknown so I wanted to do something more for him; knowing that my sister was going through a hard time; so I started a 529 account, with $100.
The party was held at my mom's (I was living there at the time), so I helped w/ food, and stuff too.
Anna wore my gown but her godmother did buy her party dress, she also bought her a diamond cross necklace. It was the same deal with my goddaughter.
Her godfather gave her a jewlery box and savings bond. I would talk to the parent's and see what they wish. Traditionally the godmother buys the Christening outfit

Should have mentioned, the christening gown has been passed down through the family, so that's taken care of.
I'm leaning toward jewelry, but not necessarily a cross.
Thanks, everyone!
I was thinking about the small version of this necklace, with her first initial.
Will you be my child's godparent?
DS#1 received a few really awesome devotional books.
This one is my favorite:
