Outer Banks NC which town? what to do?
Hi - We are trying to plan a vacation for 5 adults and 2 toddlers for this summer. We think we want to rent a house in the Outer Banks but we don't know which town we should look in.
Do you have a suggestion for where to stay and what to do?
Thanks
Re: Outer Banks NC which town? what to do?
It depends on what kind of vacation you want... if you want to be close to shops and restaurants, and don't mind a little congestion, I'd stay in the northern part (Kitty Hawk, Kill Devil Hills). If you want to be in a less crowded area with fewer people around, I'd head to Cape Hatteras or maybe Nags Head.
To be honest, I haven't done much of anything the two times I've been to OBX - we just hung out on the beach or at the house and relaxed
There are lots of options for water sports though, and you could visit the Wright Brothers Memorial if you want something educational. I am sure there are things for toddlers, but I haven't paid much attention to those myself - hopefully others will chime in.

my parents own a vacation house down in the OBX, so i'm pretty familiar with the area.
i totally agree with the other post. it depends on what you're looking for. The areas of duck, nags head, kitty hawk just have more going on- more restaurants, shops, etc. this might be the place to stay with toddlers- just because you have more going on.
Hatteras Island ( a little further south) its a national seashore. so, a lot of it preserved. its just "quieter". theres still stuff to do ( movie theater, mini golf, restaurants, the Cape Hatteras lighthouse, jet ski/ catamaran rentals) so thats more of a place to just hang out on the beach for the week. the cool thing is that they let you have bonfires on the beach- so its AMAZING to head down to the beach at night, make a bonfire, have a beer, roast some marshmellows, look at TONS of stars...)
my parents house is on hatteras island, sp i'm a little biased :-) if you stat on hatteras island, you definitely want to stay in the town of AVon. thats where most of the "stuff" is. its also great for toddlers, becasue just outside of Avon on the bayside is a "day use" area of beach which is PERFECT for toddlers- they can play on the beach and in the water, without all the waves! most of the house rental companies also have a pool "club" that you can go to when you rent a house through them. its a nice break from the beach....
PLEASE page me, or PM me if you have any other questions about the area :-)
Thanks for the information! I appreciate it. I will do some more reaserch and then will page you miss1180. Thanks for the offer!
