lake george?

Want to go in June for romantic getaway. Any recommendations on where to stay and what to do? I don't want to spend more than 170 a night. Prefer to be near action.

Re: lake george?

  • There are so many hotels and things to do right on the lake. I went last summer as a "very last minute trip". We ended up just using priceline and we got the Travelodge in Lake George... which I wouldn't call romantic by any means but it was only $79 a night for the same weekend we left. There are so many cute BBs and hotels on the lake, so hopefully someone else will have a rec for you with hotels :)

We liked taking the Mini-Ha-Ha which was a cruise around the lake. They also do sunset, dancing and dinner cruises as well. One morning we rented kayaks from a local shop and my husband and I kayaked around the lake, it was a lot of fun. Also, just walking down the strip is fun, because there are so many different shops, restaurants and bars. There also a park that does a lot of concerts and shows, which is fun. Also, there's about a million mini-golf courses on and around the lake :) Oh, and great escape, the six flags amusement park! :) Have fun!

  • not in the middle of things and i'm not sure of the cost but i think the sagamore wins for romantic. my family has been going to sun castle for 30+ years but also not in the middle of town. the georgian is less romantic but is in town.

definitely do a cruise on the lake. as pp mentioned there's the minne-ha-ha. there's also the mohican and several others. we usually headed away from town for restaurants. longtime family favorites: george's, the ridge terrace (a bit of a drive but very nice), the coachman, and the log jam.

it is gorgeous up there, hope you have a wonderful time!

  • My family has been staying at the Blue Lagoon for the past 20+ years.  We like it because it is one of the few places that is flat.  You can see the lake from any room you stay at.

Definately do one of the cruises.  They are alot of fun.  You can also go to the Depe Dene (sp) and rent jet skis.  Sagamore or Algonquin would make for a nice romantic dinner.  Sagamore is a beautiful hotel, kind of reminds me of the Dirty Dancing resort, not sure why.  LOL.

  • My family went to Lake George every summer growing up, and we went back this summer for old time's sake.  I LOVE Lake George.  I don't really have romantic recommendations but ditto the Sagamore - it's a luxury hotel right on the lake.  We do Diamond Cove Cottages - not really romantic but comfortable little cottages with a small beach and dock access.  I'm sure there are tons of historic b&bs if you prefer that.  I'd actually recommend staying on the lake rather than near town (Lake George Village or Bolton's Landing). We always stay somewhere with a quiet lakefront, then drive into town in the evening for dinner and walking around (souvenir shops, fortune tellers, ice cream, arcades, etc.).  Chick's Marina and Yankee Marina do parasailing and boat rentals.

Definitely do a lake cruise - we always do Minne-ha-ha.  There is great hiking - my husband and I did Buck Mountain - beautiful view of the lake from the summit.  In town, Adirondack Winery offers a fun cheap wine tasting.  Lots of good restaurants - I recommend Porreca's for homemade pasta and a good wine list,  Cate's for slightly more casual Italian in town.  George's is a nicer steak house but I haven't been there in years.  Lobster Pot is good casual seafood.  Boat House is good for lunch on the lake, but not as great for dinner in my opinion.  Algonquin used to be great but I think it's really gone downhill.

    Have fun!
