I'm mainly just a lurker here, but have posted a few times and now I have another question.
Background: I've been married for a year and have something like 8 or 9 UTI's and 2 kidney infections since then. It's been crazy and horrible and we are trying to figure that out.
Now I think I have a yeast infection, but I've never had one before so I'm totally sure. I have all the symptoms, though (itching, discharge, odor, painful urination...). Sorry it's that TMI. I started a 3 day course of monistat from the drugstore and my last treatment is tonight. Today I noticed that I had blood in my urine. Is that normal for a yeast infection? Online I read that that can happen with UTI's (although I've never experienced that), but there was nothing about it with yeast infections. Just making sure that this isn't something more serious that I shouldn't be overlooking. I've also had some significant stomach pain last night and today, don't know if that could be related?
Sorry for the lengthy post -- any help is appreciated! Thanks
Re: Not really S&R, but...
No, blood does not normally accompany a yeast infection. I would make an appointment with your OB to determine if it's actually a yeast infection that you have. GL.
do you pee after sex?
I had an upper water infection last year, and I thought I was dying. Worst thing I've ever had.
Ditto PP - do you pee after sex? After my UTI, I do this religiously - H and I cuddle before anyway, because he falls asleep straight after.
Also, cranberry juice. They don't know why, but it helps.
Drink loads of water.
Wipe front to back.
There's really not much more you can do. Mine was brought on by stress. I'd nearly had a breakdown that day then I was up all night with it.
I've not had one since, thankfully. I'd check with your doctor - it took three months to get rid of mine - maybe they didn't give you the right antibiotics?
Good luck and hope you feel better soon.
They used to do a test called an IVP -- intervenus pyelogram -- they inject dye into you and they do an evaluation of your urinary tract.
In the meanwhile, take a cranberry tablet each day -- or have half a glass of cranberry juice each morning. Great for the urinary tract and it will help to keep infections away.
Ditto this.
Don't just go to your OBGYN or GP. Get a referral to a urologist. Trust me. I suffered for a decade with intermittent UTI's. The urologist was able to run a very sensitive test, determine that I had a low-level infection and put me on medication for 90 days to really clear it out. I haven't had a UTI since (more than 12 years).
Thanks for the advice! I will call my doctor tomorrow about the blood in the urine. I'm due to start my period any time (I'm actually a couple days late), but it just doesn't seem like AF to me. Definitely not as heavy as normal, it's mostly been spotting. But... it could just be that. Anyway, I'll go to the doc tomorrow.
I saw a urologist in the beginning for the UTI's, but haven't been since I've had so many. I've been wanting to get a thorough evaluation but just haven't made the time, so thanks for the encouragement to do that
A yeast infection does not cause painful urination or blood in the urine, but a UTI will cause both. Definitely get to the doctor tomorrow and see a urologist soon to get the the bottom of your frequent UTIs. To help keep them from coming back, make sure you drink lots of water, pee after every time you have sex, and you can also drink a glass of cranberry juice a day (I used to take cranberry supplement pills when I was a newlywed and getting a lot of UTIs).
It sounds like you also have a yeast infection or some other type of infection in addition to a UTI.
Just an FYI...I work at a Clinical Lab Scientist do tons of UA's. There is actually no way microscopically to tell the difference between menstrual blood and blood in the urinary tract. There are macroscopic hints like menstrual blood usually contains clots but under the microscope a red blood cell is a red blood cell. That's why it is important to tell your doctor if your on your period if you are having a UA performed.
Glad you're going to the doc.Hope they can figure out what is wrong with you. Maybe I missed this but did they give your H some antibiotics as well? He could be a carrier. Sometimes people have yeast causing the UTI. If it's been going on for a while you may have a combination infection. Good luck at the doc.
