Question re. connection time at Houston Airport (IAH)

Hi ladies,

I was wondering what your thoughts were on a 45 minute connection time at Houston Airport. Both would be on Continental, a domestic to an international although I know it's a very big airport. The first flight would be an early morning one (set to get into Houston at 8:15 AM local time). I feel that it would be cutting it too close but the next one doesn't leave until 7 PM so I'd be loathe to do that option. I'm still researching ideas for our big trip and this was only one idea so I'm not at all committed to it, just wanting to inquire at this point.

I don't think that will be a problem, assuming your first flight isn't late.

That would be a tight connection if your arriving flight comes into C (Continental domestic terminal) and you have to depart out of E (Continental international terminal.) Some domestic flights arrive and depart E, so that would obviously be easy. I think it is a manageable time, you can walk between C and E in about 10-15 minutes.

Houston, yuck, I can't stand that airport for connections although the town itself is awesome. Yes it is a tight bit of time but doable if you are on time. I wouldn't expect to get all your carryon luggage on the international flight though as most people will have boarded by the time you get to the gate. Just put a tsa lock on and make sure you keep your necessities in a small carryon that will fit under the seat just in case they take it at the gate and put it underneath the plane.

If your flight is on time you won't have any time to lolly gag around, but it's probably doable. I think your carry on luggage will be fine. I fly out of IAH internationally at least once a month and there is always room - maybe because a checked bag is free on international flights? Checked luggage making that connection though might be iffy. If you miss it, well there's always the 7 pm option.

Why not take a mid afternoon flight and take the 7 pm flight or fly in the night before to make the early morning flight if you're concerned?

Agree with pp. It's tight, but doable if everything goes right. Check to see if you are flying a regional jet there. If so, you will go to B, which is further to E, than C is. I think it helps that you are leaving in the am, as it seems that early flights are delayed a lot less. Having said that, I have also had everything go right, no delays, but when I get to the connecting destination, sit on the runway forever. Its doable, but I would check what my options were if the plane was late and I miss the connection.

my first thought is no way. 45 mins is WAY too short for me for any connection so i say no. i'd automatically fly in the night before, make a fun night and half day of it and fly out the next night. what if it's raining and you're delayed even 20 mins? that's a missed flight.

my 2nd thought is there's no other flight to get to houston except the one that arrives at 815 am? even if it's not continental.....
