Cake Pops maker or pan- anyone have one?
This is partially me looking for a recc and partially me making a confession- yesterday between Callou and Sesame Street there was a commercial for the Bake Pops Pan (
http://www.bakepopspan.com/ if you want to see it in all of its informercial goodness) and DD went nuts for it.
Last night I started googling around and basically there is the informercial pan, or the BabyCakes cake pop machine baker thing and they are about the same price. I know the BabyCakes machine takes up more space, but it's faster and looks like it might be easier to use?
Does anyone have either one of these?

Exactly. I have a BabyCakes maker. While it's much easier toss a cake mix in the maker, the taste doesn't compare to the "by hand" method.
but do your cake pops totally fall apart?
I can't fathom making them by hand w/ DD- that would be a messy disaster and I think that the machine/pan method would be more immediate gratification for her. We don't use frosting from a can, so making them the by-hand way would be a lot of labor and trial & error.
ETA- I just asked for one on freecycle- maybe I will get lucky!
My pops don't fall apart, but the stick does not stay. Even if I dip the end into melted chocolate, they still fall out. It's perfect a tool if you want to make donut holes.
Good luck with scoring one from freecycle!
someone already replied and told me that she had one and it didn't work well, so she bought the pan- doh!
I almost bought one the other day... now I am glad I didn't
Those of you that have them.. have you tried putting the stick in, taking it back out, dipping the stick in chocolate or icing and putting it back in? Would that maybe help to keep it in place until after it's covered with chocolate and hardened?
Still didn't work for me. Someone mentioned putting the pops in the freezer first then inserting the stick. I haven't tried that method yet, but I will in the future to see if it works.
Either- my DD saw the ad for the pans on TV, but I was thinking that the BabyCakes maker might be easier for us to use together, or at least more exciting for her to watch.
Kira has been telling me all about this. Informericals are going to be the death of me.
She currently is begging for squishy baff
Informercials are clearly tools of satan.
Squishy baff is disgusting- you know it's made from the pellets that they also put in diapers right? my brother gave the kids 4 vials of "snow" that expands w/ water that is the same stuff.
Today I went into the As Seen On TV store in the mall after Stroller Strides and Eloise's head almost exploded.
Yes I knew that is what squishy baff was and that is why we won't buy it. I cannot imagine that it cleans easily. Kira is convinced that we can get a kiddie pool and she can use it in the yard.
You can have my 4 vials of it, I don't think E knows what it is or what she is missing out on. Add it to the list of things my kids got for Xmas that was totally stupid.
Thanks for the offer but I will pass. I can only imagine what my mad scientist would do with it.
I'm about ready to toss her barbie make up set. She's constantly glittering up her face.
I've made them twice by hand, and I cannot imagine how the pan would really make the cake pops work. When you make them by hand, the middle is almost truffle like and so moist and yummy. I also made my own frosting and made it cater to the kind of pop I was making - cream cheese for red velvet, peanut butter for chocolate. mint for chocolate, and vanilla for lemon, etc..
It is work, but everyone LOVED them and now I will always make them for our big big parties.
