Moms of toddlers and older

I need help organizing.  The kids have coloring books, crayons, paints, markers, playdough, glue sticks, etc.  I had a small drawer, but their collection has grown.  What do you do to keep the art supplies tamed?

  • I put a cheap shelf over the desk area in our basement/lower living room - using cheap brackets and shelf from Menards.  Then I got white craft boxes on clearance at Michaels and put all the craft stuff in them.  I wanted them accessible but out of reach since he isn't old enough to have free reign of craft stuff yet.

I really like this idea for the markers/glue sticks, etc as well

  • I had to go through and pull out about 1/2 the coloring books and put them away. I'm trying to direct them to certain books so we can finish them off and get rid of them.  In terms of organizing , I don't really have a good suggestion as we have our stuff  crammed in a kitchen cupboard.  The extras I have in a two-drawer plastic unit in Allison's closet.
  • For Brielle's playdough I just bought a rubbermaid storage bin. Her paints, markers, glue, ect. all go in the storage bins under her easel. Crayons are in a big basket & that gets but on a shelf with the coloring books.

    That is adorable.

T's playroom has been a work in progress since September.  I suck.  But ya know, he loves that room.  Absolutely loves it.

Hopefully it will be finished before he is too old for it.

  • We have a collection of canvas bins from Target and plastic lidded storage boxes from Dollar Tree for Caleb's stuff. He also has a little plastic lap desk from Learning Express (when it was going out of business) that has two end pockets. I keep some workbooks in there, coloring books in a bin, writing implements in a plastic tub, play-doh in a bin, markers and paints in a drawer he can't reach... ;)

The canvas bins live on a bookshelf in our living/dining room. The plastic bins can be slid under his bed or placed on a higher shelf depending on what's in them.
