Toddlers and winter coats make me tired. What are yours wearing?
So up until today, the coat situation has been easy peasy. They love their light fall jackets. Well, now that today is supposed to be cold, I wanted them in bigger coats. Holyshit this morning was drama. Those 3-in-1 coats are a whole lotta coat. Once I finally got everyone stuffed in and zipped up, I didn't know if it was too puffy for the car seat. I wrestled them in, pulled the straps tight, and took off with two screaming kids anyway.
After getting everyone dropped off and basking in the silence, I got to thinking- do they need a giant coat? Especially if it's not safe in a car seat? They get into a warm car in the garage and literally walk 8 feet into daycare. Should I put them in the fleece liner of the coat and have the rest of the coat in the car for emergencies? I'm pretty sure the 8 feet of cold would be less drama than the 20 minute giant coat shitstorm anyway.
So what do your kids wear? TIA!

My youngest gets wicked car sick. I learned if she is cooler she does better. They do not wear jackets with the car seat and then put them off when we stop at daycare.
Youngest also refuses to put on a jacket, hat, or gloves. Life is good!
thanks to jennied
I do lighter fall coats all winter with hats and long sleeves underneath. They aren't playing outside, so it's plenty to get them in and out of the car.
This exactly.
He usually just wears a fleece hoodie or when it's colder he wears this. I love this thing. It's SOO soft.

We started the winter with a heavier coat and shiiit quickly hit the fan. We walk 20 ft from the car into daycare or into a store, so I think he's fine with a light coat.
We have this pea coat:

which works well, warm but not puffy at all, but we also have a fleece poncho, which is perfect for use in a car seat, because you can strap the baby in without removing the poncho. My car seat techie friend recommended the poncho idea.
I'm sorry... this made me laugh.
S has a puffy coat and I'm afraid to have him wear it in the car seat. With the nice weather we haven't dealt with this with the new car seats. When we still used the carrier car seat, I would just put the puffy coat on him so it looked like he was straight jacketed.
I'm thinking go with the fleece and hat and gloves and keep the puffy coats in the car for emergencies.
This is what DS wears as well! Love it. DD wears a Columbia fleece when in the car too. I take their heavy winter coats along with us just in case though.
This and the coat gets put on right before they get out of the van.
