1.5 days in Frankfurt - what to do

DH and I will have a stop in Frankfurt on our way to Rome in September.  What is/are must do items we can plan for as we will have only 1.5 days.

 Also, any great hotel recommendations?

Thx in advance!

Re: 1.5 days in Frankfurt - what to do

  • Frankfurt is an easy distance from some of Germany's wine routes.

  • The Frankfurt airport is about halfway between Frankfurt and Mainz. We recently spent two days in Mainz to see the Christmas markets. It's only twenty minutes by train on the S8 line going towards Weisbaden from the airport. Mainz is a charming town righty on the Rhine and is very walkable. Nice restaurants, an ? old town? area, the Guttenberg museum, lots of shopping, etc. Since we only had two days we chose to spend it in Mainz rather than a larger city like Frankfurt and don't regret it at all. I would imagine that hotels are also cheaper in Mainz.
  • Check out www.walkingwiesbaden.blogspot.com. She does walking tours of Frankfurt, Mainz, and Wiesbaden.
