Did something STUPID w/ fabric ... but does it matter?

I'm going tomorrow to make a biscuit quilt and was told to get 6-8 diff fabrics, 1/4 yard each, and to prewash.

Okay, I did the getting and then today I washed them. STUPIDLY I put them in the washing machine. Now the edges are frayed, and they're about 1/3-1/4 inch shorter width wise. Is that okay? Is that much going to make a difference?

Ugh I feel dumb.

Re: Did something STUPID w/ fabric ... but does it matter?

  • Nope, if they told you to prewash, they expected and took into account the shrinkage.

Next time, if you want less fraying, take a pinking shears to the edges before washing.

  • Shrinkage is why many patterns tell you to prewash.  Always prewash before making clothes.  There are two camps when it comes to quilts.

Yes   I am a great non-washer of quilting fabrics because I like my quilts extra crinkly when they're finished.

I am in the nonwash quilt camp, too! I love the crinkly softness.
