Secrets Maroma in Mexico

Good Afternoon,

I see that quite a few of you have traveled here for a vacation and I have been doing lots of research on this particular resort.  We plan on going for the holidays this year and are pretty excited!

We are most likely going to inquire about a swim out suite.

Here are my questions:

1) what kind of liquor, beer and wine to they have?  Is any top shelf?

2) are there healthy menu/food options available?

3) I didn't notice anything about a gym facility, so is there one?

4) Would you choose a swim out suite or an ocean view room higher up?

Thanks!

  • liquor and gym ?s answered here: http://www.secretsresorts.com/maroma/whatsinc.asp

    what's your definition of 'healthy'?

Friday, December 28 2012. The day I had emergency appendix surgery in Mexico and quit smoking. Proof that everything has a good side!! DH and I are happily child-free!! No due date or toddler tickers here!! my read shelf:
Alison's book recommendations, favorite quotes, book clubs, book trivia, book lists (read shelf)
  • Are you considerring doing the Preferred Club status/room?  If I remember correctly; it's like $130ish extra per day.  Personally, if/when we go back, I don't think it's worth it; but if you're concerned about top-shelf; the Preferred Club bar did have liqour that the other bars did not.

    2) are there healthy menu/food options available? Eh, like pp said; it depends if what you think is healthy.  Most of the dinner restaurants have salad starters and there was a decent amount of fish options (although some fried)

    3) I didn't notice anything about a gym facility, so is there one? Yes (but we didn't use it)

    4) Would you choose a swim out suite or an ocean view room higher up? It would depend on the cost and when you're going.  We had a swimout room in mid-October and loved it bc none of our "neighbors" used it.  It felt like we had an entire pool to ourselves and we'd go there in the late afternoon to relax before getting ready for dinner

I have a review of our trip in my Ms. Bio under Honeymoon if you're interested (for ref. we went in Oct 2010)

  • We HMd here and absolutely love it. Would go back in a heartbeat.

We chose a room with a view over the swim out rooms and were very pleased. We ordered room service for breakfast and ate on the balcony and it was nice. Although you should know that the preferred club rooms have the best ocean views.

From what I recall about the liquor, if you ask the bartenders for a particular kind, they will give it to u if they have it. They don't make your drinks with the good stuff automatically, you have to ask for it.

  • 1) what kind of liquor, beer and wine to they have? Is any top shelf? I'm not a big drinker, so I didn't really pay attention. It all tasted good.

    2) are there healthy menu/food options available? As with any restaurant, you'll find "better" and "not so great" options on each menu.

    3) I didn't notice anything about a gym facility, so is there one? Yes.

    4) Would you choose a swim out suite or an ocean view room higher up? We were upgraded to a swim-out (ground floor) suite when we arrived, which was a surprise. I was excited at first, but it didn't turn out to be the greatest thing because our immediate neighbors were somewhat obnoxious when they had been drinking and sharing a pool with them was not pleasant. Having the swim-out option also doesn't give you as much privacy, as there can be people floating by your room, looking in, at any time. So we had the curtains closed more than we would have liked. Plus, keep in mind that Mexico will have bugs, and while the resort does a great job of eliminating them, you'll still find them on ground-floor rooms. Reflecting after our trip, I would have preferred a room with a view.

Overall, we really enjoyed our time at SMB and I would definitely recommend the resort.
