Winter long weekend ideas drivable from Boston w kids

I'm trying to plan a long weekend for me, DH and our 4yr old and 2yr old.  I am tempted to do North Conway so we can take the 4yr old to do some ski lessons at Cranmore and then I can hang at the hotel in the waterpark with my 2yr old....but I am open to other ideas.

What's a location with a good hotel with indoor pool (maybe waterpark) and cute walking distance shopping/dining with in a 2-3hr drive from Boston that is not just skiing.  I need to have things to do with the 2yr old who isn't old enough for skis yet.

  • North Conway is a great place for a winter weekend trip. I haven't been, but my nephew likes Santa's Village, and that's in the neighborhood. I think Mount Washington has ice skating and snowtubing available too, as well as other areas up there. There's also some outlets up that way, if you can convince everyone to go. Vermont might be fun too... Ben & Jerry's is fun, but might be better in the summer :) I think Stowe's resort has a lot of different things happening too, but it might be just out of driving range. Gunstock has a lot of different winter varieties too, if you're looking for something a little closer and there's a lot of things in that area since it's near lake winnespeakue (sp?-- i have no idea).

     Good luck!

  • If it doesn't have to be a skiing trip, Woodstock VT, Portsmouth NH, Newport RI, and Portland ME.
  • I think for what you are looking for North Conway is the best option.

We also love Stowe, VT and there are lots of great restaurants, snowshoeing, sleigh rides,tubing,etc....The Von Trapp lodge is beautiful as is the Topnotch resort but both are pricey. I think the Green Mountain Inn has an indoor pool and is in town so walkable to restaurants. The Ben and Jerry factory is down the road about 15 minutes and is very fun!

If you dont' want skiing, I would suggest Portsmouth, NH, Portland, Maine or Mystic,CT. The Mystic Hilton has a nice indoor pool and is right across the street from the aquarium.
