first OB appt

Just got back from our first OB appointment. The doctor was totally awesome, and full of humor. He asked if we were happy, and my response was "sure" (I'm still uncertain, but going forward) and he was enthused to proceed. When he asked if I smoke, I said no, well not cigarettes.. and he laughed and called me a toker and asked if I stopped.. which I have. He had other things to say that were unconventional, but up my alley. Very easy to talk to, and I felt like I could ask the "dumbest" of questions and not be looked at weirdly.

He did my first ultra sound, and everything looks good. The sack is implanted correctly. However, the size indicates that I"m only 2 weeks along, but I know my conception date, so we know it's about 4 weeks.. it's just small. In another 2 weeks I'll get my bloodwork back, and have another US. Here goes nothin!

  • fantastic! i'm glad you're excited. so did he say how this impacts the MS? will you have to go to a high risk OBGYN? are there any risks for you?
Me:39 Dx LPD, Fibroid, AMA and all that goes with that. H:37 Dx low motility and low morphology. TTC since 3/12. Clomid 8/12 and 9/12: BFN. 11/12 on a break for Myomectomy sched. 11/26. Resume TTC early 2013.
  • He said it could go one of 3 ways.. it gets better, it gets worse, it stays the same. I thanked him for clarifying that for me. He told me to let my neurologist know, but he's experienced in MS pregnancies, and since I'm not on meds for it, there's no need for a high risk OB

That response is pretty hilarious, but frustrating at the same time!

Glad your appointment went well and that you like your OB. That's SO important! When's the next appointment?

In 2 weeks. I'm just happy he gave me something to stop throwing up. It wasn't morning sickness, it was any time I swallowed something other than my own saliva. And BOO to GHI insurance for not covering my prenatal vitamins!

  • You can buy OTC prenatal vitamins at Target or CVS or somewhere, for pretty cheap!

    Glad the appointment went well!

I picked up the Centrum Prenatal. I'm going to see if Costco carries them in bulk.

  • You can take 2 Flintstones if the prenatals make you sick.
  • Your OB sounds pretty cool. I'm glad that you like him. Happy & healthy 9 months to you!

And I took the Target prenatal gummies b/c the regular prenatals made me sick. I don't think they have iron in them though so you might need to get an Rx for an iron supplement later on - which insurance might cover.
