What should I ask my bank? re: bi weekly mtg payments

I'm considering making bi-weekly mtg payments instead of just once a month. I've heard/read that it can be beneficial in the long run.

Anyone do this?

What should I ask my bank besides do they allow it?

  • We do weekly, basically 4x's a year we make an extra payment (when there are 5 mondays in the month).  The money goes directly to the principle.  It just helps to pay the loan off sooner.

I would make sure your bank does not charge you if you pay your loan off early.  I don't think most do but have heard that some do.

This!  We pay twice a month and we actually pay a little more so that the extra goes towards principle.

  • usually to pay of the mortgage early there will be a minimal fee ( less than what you are saving in the long run) BOA was going to charge us $4 extra per payment to pull biweekly since it wasn't coming form a BOA checkin account.

Make sure there are no added fees like that as well as ask them to pull up your amoritization schedule to tell you how much sooner you will be paying off your loan
