Tell me about your experiences in Negril, please! Good, bad, love it or hate it. If you've been to The Rockhouse or The Caves, I'd be especially interested to hear what you thought. Is The Caves really worth the prices they charge? You can save a LOT by staying at Rockhouse, but it's AI and adults-only which I really like.
To give you some background, we've been to Mexico and the DR for "do nothing but relax on the beach" type vacations; we'd happily go back to Mexico for a week of relaxation and the AI experience. Prefer small hotels and I'm intrigued by the cliffs location, so I probably wouldn't do the beach. Looking for gorgeous scenery, nice rooms, good food, good service and a place to unwind, relax and forget about life for a week. Kinda picky and a bit of a hotel snob.
I'm not totally sold on Negril, but I couldn't tell you why.
Re: Negril - Rockhouse, The Caves, ?
Was in Negril but was not at Rockhouse or Caves. I was pretty intrigued by the cliff area too, but in the end, we picked our AI for the beach since Negril is well-known for their beaches and I personally thought it would have been a waste not to experience. We stayed at Breezes Grand Negril, and yes, the beaches there were amazing. There was great snorkeling off the beach too. I was really happy with the rooms, service, and food - they are also AI and I believe for only 16years old and above. Couples Negril was right next door and they are very highly ranked too.
We did take a sunset cruise (nude-optional - yikes!) to Rick's Cafe at the cliffs location. I can't remember if we passed by the Rockhouse or not, but I was not as impressed looking at the resorts there. There really was not a beach, just small cliffs. But our excursion to Rick's was SO much fun! You get to jump off the cliffs there with people cheering. It was absolutely a blast.
I highly recommend Negril for a relaxing vacation!
Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts. Broad, wholesome, charitable views of men and things cannot be acquired by vegetating in one little corner of the earth all one's lifetime.

We leave for Rockhouse in 5 weeks and I cannot wait, I researched like crazy for this trip and I seriously could not find anyone that did not like RH(no children under the age of 12 are allowed). Plus, their restaurants are known as some of the best in Negril. With that said, I've also heard great things about The Caves.
The first time we went to Jamaica we stayed at Couples Negril and did the AI thing and did not like it. AI's are fine in Mexico, but we actually liked to leave the resort in Negril and found much better dining options outside of CN. I have a long list of cliffside restaurants that are highly recommended that I can't wait to try (RH restaurants, Sips and Bites, Just Natural, 3 Dives, Ivans Bar, etc).
I don't know about The Caves but do know that Rockhouse typically sells out so I would double-check they have availability.
Thanks! Let me know what you think when you get back! We'd be looking at going over Christmas, so I'm not too worried about booking yet. I'll probably book in March or April since I'm throwing around a few other possible places as options - not sure if we want to do a big trip or just lay around for a week.
I would think you'd be fine, e booked ours back in May. I'll definitely post a review when we get back, I'm beyond excited :-)
We LOVED The Caves, Everything about it was amazing. You can read my review from Dec. '09 on Trip Advisor that includes pics if you our interested in more details.

The Caves was amazing and worth every penny. We went during the off season and it was a little cheaper, but still pretty pricey. We split our time between there and a resort on the beach (Couples Swept Away) and while we thought it was good to experience both sides of Negril, we wished we'd stayed at Caves a few days longer and skipped the larger resort altogether. The food was fantastic, the service was out of this world, and the resort itself was breathtakingly beautiful. I know it's cliche, but the pictures don't do this place justice, it's that spectacular.
If you can spend the money on it, I say go for it. DH and I decided that we rarely get to take vacations with just the two of us since having our son, so when we do we want to splurge and make it worthwhile. We don't regret the money we spent on the Caves at all and we'd do it again in a heat beat. It really changed my vacation style. I used to love scoring a good deal on a trip, now I don't worry as much about what we spend and worry more about making the short time we have together away from our son as memorable for us as possible.
If you have questions, let me know.
Hi Tiffany,
We're staying at Moon Dance Cliffs (we did a destination wedding so decided to take our honeymoon a few months later). I stayed at their sister property, Moon Dance Villas, a year ago and absolutely loved it. During that trip, we went over to Moon Dance Cliffs for dinner and the food and service was amazing! The resort was so pretty that I made a mental note to stay there the next time I was in Negril. H isn't a beach person (even though he's Trini!) but he loves pools and Moon Dance has a really beautiful serpentine pool that runs throughout the property, plus the cave jumping. I've swam the cliff waters before on different snorkling excursions and the water is usually very calm and clear. Moon Dance is a little bigger than The Caves (22 rooms vs 12) and has 5 villas. I don't think you can go wrong with either property. In the end, we chose Moon Dance because H really wanted to do the private villa thing, and they are currently running a 35% off promotion with no blackout dates. We definitely plan to vist The Caves in the next couple of years, because everyone that we know who has stayed there raves about it.
