  We've offered to be a placement for BSW's which I would supervise, but we haven't gotten one yet.  We have space issues, so we don't really have an office space that an MSW intern would need.  I think it's something I'd like to do at some point, but it doesn't work for now.  I worked with a counseling intern at my last position to get her ready to cover my maternity leave, but I wasn't her direct supervisor.  She was a nightmare and made me think I never wanted to work with an intern again...but I know they're not all like that.  I think in SW it always feels like you have so much more to learn, so I totally get your worry that a good one would be smarter than you.  I always feel like I should be stronger clinically, but I also know I've come a long way from where I was in grad school.  You might get an intern that thinks they're as smart as you...but they won't be!  A good one will know they have a lot to learn from you.

  So true!! Those are my favorite ones. I feel like it's my turn to do it. I interned there and was hired when I graduated and have seen so many intern classes come thru since then (6... wow). Everyone except 2 of our staff members have been interns (and some have been with the hospital for over 20 years). It's a legacy that I need to help continue on.

  I'm not a MSW, but I'm a SLP and have taken on a bunch of students.  It helps me be better accountable, explain what I do and I think it's made me a better therapist.  That is if I get a good one.  If I get a crappy one, I'm annoyed.

  I also am not a MSW, but I'm an OTR and have supervised students too.  It definitely keeps things interesting, and my goals and progress notes are so much better when I have a student  ).  Also, you end up learning some things too!  And as an added bonus, we get to use student supervision hours toward our continuing ed credits when reapplying for our registration every few years...yay for free CEU's!

  I have to take a class for being a first year supervisor so I'll get CEUs for that but if not for the class, I don't think I would get anything towards CEUs!
