Leftovers from when I was single

I've had a sad day.  Tonight, since D has to work and won't be home until after I go to bed, I've decided to have the type of night I would have had in this situation when I was single.  So, I just got out of a super hot shower, I've got my cozy PJs on, and I'm about to pour myself a glass of cheap champagne.  Then I'm going to make myself popcorn for dinner and settle in with the my book.

I realized tonight that this is one of the only behaviors I've kept since moving in with D (that and my TV addiction).  So much changes when you live with someone else.

Is there anything you still do that you did when you were single/lived alone?

  • I live alone...your post pretty much sums up my nights! :)

  • I still am on the internet when H is next to me. It's hard for me to break since he's really my only friend in the area and I feel bad since I don't pay a whole lot of attention to him

  • My first thought was, "I got trashed and made poor decisions". *insert embarrassed face* Now I still set aside time just to paint my nails and relax.

  • I do most everything the same. We lived in a tiny 5th wheel for a couple of years when we first started living together. Maybe the first year there were shy things (like turn up he tv because i'm going to take a sh!t, lol) but after that I went back to what I've always done.

The only thing i don't do now, is dance to the music.. sober.
He prefers the TV while I would always have the radio on (single).

My apartment had a radio in every room... good times.

Same here! Though I revert back to that when he is downstairs, and I am upstairs making dinner. Music all the way!! (And I didn't have a T.V. for the first two years of college, and didn't care...)

  • I use to take long baths.. and watch movies.. and do one thing (or nothing) at a time.

Now it's quick showers.. interrupted shows.. and constant multitasking.

  • I'm sure I'm going to be judged, but...I've never lived alone. Ever. I pretty much went from my mom's house to a friend's house for a couple months and then on to move in with Jay and now we're married.

Not judging but it does make me a little sad. Living alone is pretty awesome.

Know what?  Living with your parents is still living with someone besides your husband.  Still counts.  If my BFF had moved in with me instead of getting engaged and moving in with her now husband, I would never have lived alone, either.

I never lived alone either. I went from my parents house then moved into our current house with H.

I still made poor decisions under my parents roof haha

  • I also never lived alone. I went from my parents, to college apartment with 5 other girls, back home, then moved to another state with my male roommate. However, I still had plenty of time alone. My roommate would often crash at his GF's house and we worked different schedules.

I used to eat a lot of pasta with burned butter and Parmesan for dinner. I missed it so much I would whip some up after work and eat it as a pre-dinner snack without him knowing. I never told him b/c I didn't want to hear the "You won't be hungry for dinner, or see, that's why you aren't eating enough dinner." I have since stopped my pre-dinner meals :) My thighs convinced me of that.

So now I eat it for dinner when he's away for work.

  • I think only a few of my friends ever truly lived "alone" without any roommates.   I only did it for about a year, and I'm actually glad that I had that time.

The main thing is that back then I used to read books quite a bit and now I pretty much never do (except when traveling).   I have become more TV addicted and less interested in reading, but I still have plenty of chances to read now if I wanted to.  I'm not quite sure what changed or when it happened.

Also, I didn't cook as much when I lived alone, and definitely not every day like I do now.   Soups and salads were my main at-home meals, and now if the H came home and saw soup & salad, he would ask where the rest of dinner is!    LOL      It's a good thing I actually do like to cook, I just didn't do it much when it was just me.

No judge here. I always had a roommate.

I do wish I had lived alone at one point or another, but I don't think I would have been comfortable with it.

My roommate previous to Hubby and I had semi-opposite schedules (we had a few overlapping hours) so that was as close as I got.

I can remember moving into my single apt and my mom telling me how jealous she was, since she had never lived alone.  I was doing just fine for a while, but it was during the year that Hurricane Katrina happened, and after that point, the quiet apt complex sort of got overrun by some folks who appeared to not have jobs and liked to party at all hours of the day and night.

I was on the ground floor and there were a few times I contemplated how easy it would be for someone to bust in if they wanted to, but I never did get a gun.  Just never felt right about becoming a gun owner, myself and I never really felt threatened or anything.  Luckily I never had any issues, but there were a few times where I felt a little vulnerable.        A solid baseball bat by the bed and good self defense class kept me confident, though.  Wink

When I lived by myself, my next door neighbor was a 6-foot-5 ex-Marine who liked me.  I called him my "alarm system".  If he had ever heard me scream, he would have busted down my door and whooped some @ss

Nice!!    I also had a 6-foot-something neighbor at that place that I often had come over between midnight and 2AM... but it wasn't because I was scared.  Wink

  • I don't think anything has changed between when I was on my own and now w/ S.  I still give myself manicures whenever I feel like it, spend an entire day in the kitchen and try new recipes for the hell of it, lounge in my jammies all day and read, etc.

  • I've never lived alone. I went from my parents house, to college, back w/ my parents for a few months, got married, moved in with L.

Things that are different...L doesn't care if I run around with no pants on. I don't feel like I can eat a random dinner of a lean pocket and cucumber slices.

And one thing that makes me sad I never lived alone is that I've never been able to decorate my home without having to think of someone else. I would have had the girliest apartment you've ever seen. And it would have been awesome. However, I would absolutely hate living alone.

  • Wow, I can't imagine never having lived alone. I did for all of college and a bit after...like 5 years with just me or just my dogs.

I still do everything the same: random meals, play online. Well, I watch less Lifetime movies because H hates them.

  • I pretty much live alone because DH works the opposite schedule of me so when i get home from work I make myself dinner and do whatever I want. It's actually better than when I was single because I lived with my parents until we got engaged.

  • I'm in the never lived alone camp.

I will say that when I first moved in with H, I spend the better part of 6 months by myself while he was working OOT. So I don't have any regrets on that front.

I do pretty much the same stuff I did when I was single. I think the only thing that I don't do too much is buy new clothes when I run out of clean laundry. If H has to stay in line, so do I. LOL
