So as we all know, this winter has been so mild. We don't even have snow on the ground! And I think our total accumulation all winter is about 6". I keep hearing from people who have been here a while that this means next winter is going to be long and terrible. How much truth is there to this?! Today at the store the people from the USO told horror stories of blizzards that dumped 3-5 FEET overnight. They're exaggerating, right?!

Re: Northern people
I've definitely heard that if we have a calm winter one year, that we'll get pummeled the next...however, I've always just assumed it was an old wive's tale.
This is definitely unusual to have this little snow...especially since every New Years Eve that I can remember, I've been terrified about getting home because of snow.
Down here in CT, I can't remember waking up to 3 to 5 feet of snow, but there have definitely been times where I've had a snow day out of no where. Literally, I woke up, got ready, opened my door, and BAM. Everything is covered in snow.
Ha, this made me lol.
I sure hope y'all are right. The other thought scares me!

Well, last year was pretty ridiculous, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's true to an extent. Also, I don't know if you're anywhere near Rochester, or even Albany, but inland NY tends to get dumped on pretty bad. Melko and I are near the coast so we don't usually get the same volume.
I hope you don't have it too bad!

Last winter was pretty average I heard, at least be me.
I'm just east of the Great Lakes, so we do get a lot of lake effect snow. I just can NOT imagine 3ish feet at once. /shudder

Everyone I know from Buffalo on my Facebook keeps talking about how awesome it is that it's warm and I'm like, Do you think it will be awesome when the snowcaps finally melt? Global climate change is not awesome.
Anyway, I suspect next winter will be more hardcore. If it isn't, I suspect The End Times.

The thing that scares me is that if we don't get enough snow, we're going to have major drought problems later this year. Also, they're talking about massive bug problems if we don't get a hard freeze (meaning more mosquitos, etc). If it's 50 in January, I wonder if it's going to be 120+ in July. Maybe it IS the end times...
None of those sound fun. Hopefully the weather starts acting appropriately.
Da, were y'all part of the big mid-west storm from today/tomorrow?

I know we need snow and whatnot...but goddamn, I hate it. Unless I have a bajillion days off, a house stocked with food and booze, and good stuff on TV, that is!
I'm watching the snow fall out my office window right now and it's making me depressed about my commute home tonight and back to work tomorrow - it's supposed to snow through tomorrow afternoon, I think? They're calling it a "BIG SNOW EVENT" for the midwest, but it's falling super slow right now. It looks like I'm in a snow globe...I might have to take a pic. I think we're supposed to get 4 - 8 inches, so it's not that bad.
120 degree summer would SUUUUUUUUCCCCKKKKKK
