tried quilling :) PIPs

I'm a knitter/crocheter but I wanted to use up some old scrapbooking papers and I picked up a quilling tool so I thought I'd give it a try.  Not bad for a first attempt I think. This could be fun!

Then DD and I started some valentines for her class:

  • They both look lovely.

That's a great way to use up scrapbook paper.  I have a small stask and there is no more scrapbooking on my horizon.  What a great idea.

  • Very pretty!
I'd rather be rock climbing or playing volleyball

  • I did a bunch of quilling in high school! I should dig my books and tools back out. Those cards look great! :)

  • Cute! I've always wanted to try quilling, where did you find the tool?

  • I've never heard of quilling, that looks really great! I saw a project once that was an initial (it was a B) that the actual letter outline was raised, with those swirls (quills?) inside of it matted with a black frame.

I'm off to google that now!

  • I love the butterfly.  Great job!
  • Great job!  I picked up a quilling tool last year..and quite honestly forgot until this moment that I had it (packed in a craft box from the move I'm sure).  You have inspired me to dig it out!

  • I love them!  Someone gave me ornaments, but I never knew what it was called.  Quilling, huh.  Learn something everyday! You've totally inspired me to give this a go!

  • Those turned out great! I think I may also need to try my hand at this to use up scrap paper. Thanks for the inspiration!

  • Beautiful! Do you mind if I ask how long each of them took?

    Thanks!

They sell the strips at the craft stores if you don't want to take the time to cut your own 1/8" strips.  The heart took just a few seconds, and the butterfly took maybe half an hour.  I poured my glue in a little tray and used a toothpick to roll it onto the edges of the paper strips.
