Clicky Poll: Ear piercing

My husband asked me the other day about getting bkb ears pierced. I hadn't thought about it. Want to know SN's thoughts.[Poll]

Re: Clicky Poll: Ear piercing

  • I get why some people might be against it but I say go for it if you want to. It might be fun to save it though for when she is older and you can have a mommy/daughter day.

  • I feel it is completely up to the parents. I had my ears pierced when I was 2 or 3 and I still remember the piercing pagoda at the mall and squeezing the bear as tight as I could because I was scared and then I screamed when it actually pierced the ear. I would probably have them done sooner rather than later and then she can decide whether or not she actually wants to wear them.

  • I would wait until she would be able to take care of them herself.

  • I put asap, but that's really just my choice.  If we ever have a daughter, I know that she'll have her ears pierced as a baby, and that probably has to do with the fact mine were pierced when I was a baby (because my mom was irritated that everyone kept calling me a boy haha) In all honesty though, you're the mom, so it's really up to you (and your DH) to decide when :)
  • We will wait until she asks to have them done. Thats how it was when I was little and I think its an appropriate time. At that time if she can ask for it then she can work on taking care of them as well.

  • My mom really thought about doing my ears when I was a baby after living in the Middle East for a while where it's really common.  I guess after I was born she decided she couldn't do it without asking me first, lol.  So I remember her actually asking both my sister and I often if we wanted to yet and then one day we did!
  • I don't think it's right to pierce a baby's ears, since they have no say in the matter. It's also an incredibly gendered practice--no one pierces a baby boy's ears--so I dislike it even more. Ick.

  • We won't be piercing our hypothetical baby's ears.

My Mom didnt' even let me get my ears pierced until I was 13! Isn't that weird? I don't really think of having pierced ears as overtly womanly or grown up. I used to wear stick on earrings. Hahaha.

Both of these, except i was 12.  I got them pierced, then we went out to lunch and shopping.  She did the same thing with my other sisters, and i think that's neat.

  • I voted when she is old enough to ask, which is what my mom did. But several of my friends pierced their babies ears and I think it looks cute. I also don't know any little girls who were upset about it later.. or who didn't have them pierced and didn't want it, so I don't think it's a big deal.
