Thailand/ Cambodia

Planning a trip there this June, has anyone ever been? I'm a little nervous about the visas (should I get an e-visa online beforehand?) and about crossing the border between the 2 countries (ill be going by bus)

Anyhoo, anyone who's been to that part of the world, advice - or reassurance - is welcome :)

Re: Thailand/ Cambodia

  • We did Thailand/Cambodia/Laos a year ago and loved it. We flew between the countries so I can't speak to the border crossing, but Cambodia was awesome. I would get the visa ahead of time, I am fairly certain we did (although I could be thinking of Laos). If you can I would.

  • I was just in Cambodia a couple months ago. Visa on arrival at the airport was super easy (and much cheaper than my friends coming from the US paid to get their visas before hand at the embassy in DC). I'm not sure it's available at all border crossings though, so make sure you check your crossing before relying on it being available when you get there.
  • I am researching this and trip advisor has a forum and lots of info. I just came on here to see if anyone else had gone and your post came up! So funny.
  • We went in 2009. We also flew and got our visas at the airport, which was pretty painless. I have a review of our trip in blog.

  • If you're staying in Thailand less than 30 days you don't need a visa. We flew to Cambodia and got our visa on arrival. I think you can do this only at certain border crossings so I'd double check that before you go. You should check the thorntree travel forums. Lots of backpackers do the SEA run so there's lots of information out there.

SEA is my favorite part of the world. I've spent 5 of my last 6 Christmas and New Year's there. You'll love it.

  • I did the overland border crossing this summer (there's a good description of that experience in my blog below) - it can be pretty dicey without a pre-bought e-visa so I DEFINITELY suggest getting your Cambodian visa online before heading over there. The bus trip was quite an experience - I'm really glad I did it, but it's important to be prepared for the grey areas that pop up. Feel free to email me if you have any other questions - umdsteph at yahoo :)

That is funny! The internet has been a great resource and I've been doing a ton of research, but Im going alone so  I like to over-prepare.
