We almost stayed at Sandals Emerald Bay back when it was a Four Seasons resort but our stay was canceled because of  a Malaria scare on the island.   I did a ton of research on the resort and the island before canceling and it looked like an amazing place.  The resort looked phenomenal and the island (Exuma) looked even better.  If I had my pick, I'd pick Sandals Emerald Bay but again I don't have personal experience with either.

  • If you want to dive, why would you do an AI?  The Bahamas is where I grew up, and there's so much in the way of small businesses that I can't understand why anyone would want to do a large resort.

I read it to mean that she wanted the island to have good diving, not that she wanted the AI to have good diving.  I'm not a huge AI person [anymore] but when we'd go we never did excursions through the resort, only through the small local businesses.   I could be wrong, but that was my take on it.

  • I don't stay up on resorts, but is one on Nassau and one on Exuma?  I'm partial to the out-islands in general, so I'd recommend the Exumas.  I haven't been down that direction since I was a kid, but it's an awesome area.

  • We were married in the Great Exuma property when it was still a Four Seasons, and it is absolutely stunning.  The beaches are gorgeous, and the water is as turquoise blue as it appears in photos.  We really loved the property when it was still a 4S but have not returned since it became affiliated with Sandals.  The island is very quiet which was the main reason we loved it.

Yep, and I agree, I much prefer the out islands.  But like you, I'd prefer to stay at a smaller property as opposed to a mega resort.  Although for my honeymoon no one could have convinced me not to go with the huge resort.

  • Wait, Sandals is the 4S?  Didn't they just build the 4S less than 10 years ago?

It's amazing how the country has changed in the last decade.  FFS, we didn't even have individual phone lines when I was a kid, and our power went out multiple times a day.  And now there are luxury mega resorts in the out islands.  It's so weird to me.
