Re: c section peeps

  • Are you on any medications?  Do you have steri strips or anything over your incision? You could be having an allergic reaction to something

  • It looks just like an allergic reaction but I haven't used any new soaps or detergents or anything, and everything that is new I wash with tide before using, so I'm stumped.  On Friday, 11 days post op, I took off my steri strips, stopped taking Demerol, (I was only taking 1 every 6-10 hours) and switched to Tylenol, and that is the day the rash started.  The rash is on my sides and not near the incision.  It's just driving me cray cray.  I don't know if I should ask my OB, my PCP, or a dermatologist.  I'm going with ask no one because I'm sure they can't do much I'd like to know what the heck it is.  I don't really want to take Benadryl because I don't want to dry up my milk.  EEEEE!  torture!

  • I got a horrible rash that started in the hospital.  I'm pretty sure mine was from the dressing they originally put over the wound in the OR.  It started the first night post-op and itched like crazy for a few days.  The itching has mostly stopped, but I still have tiny red dots all over my abdomen.  Sorry you're dealing with this!

  • You could put hydrocortisone cream on it - If your OB did the c-section, that is who you should call.

  • Yeah, I would call your OB.  I call mine for everything.  Ha.  I don't even have to say my name on the phone and their all like "Hey Kathy, how are you today".  Whatever, I am proud to be "that" annoying patient :P

I had a c-section and I only had the itching immediately after the surgery.  It only lasted a day or two but I think it was caused by my anesthetic because I had the same itching after my D&C last week.  Sorry I am not much help

    Baby Macy is here!

  • I did! It lasted about 2 weeks. It started in my stretch marks on my belly and spread to my back, legs, and arms. I am thankful it didn't get all over my face! My dr said it was from the percocet but I had stopped taking it, so I know that wasn't it. If you google it, it seems that rashes are quite common and not many women get a firm diagnosis. I'm not sure what caused it to this day, but it sucked! I put Aveeno lotion on it. That seemed to work better than hydrocortisone. Hang in there, mama!

  • I forgot to say that I also took Claritin. I'm not sure it it was just a coincidence or not, but the rash started going away soon after I started taking it. It seemed like it was starting to come back at one point, and I started taking Claritin again and it was fine after that.

Cool, thanks :)  I have some Zyrtec left from before I was PG.  I wonder if that would dry up milk supply like Benadryl would?

  • I don't know, good question...I found kellymom.com to be the best resource for what is best to take when you're bfing. I have found that doctors don't know jack about it!
