H and I are just starting to talk about going to London. I was a literature major in college, so I'd like to see some more of the historical and literary monuments in the area. We'd also like to take a day trip or two while we're there.
Give me any and all suggestions you've got! How long to stay (I'm thinking about 10 days?), where to stay, what to see, where to eat...
Thanks in advance!

Yeah that's right my name's Yauch!
- Go on a few London Walks (see post above with some of my favorites).
- If you are there in the summer, book a show at the Globe - so cool!
- Get half price theatre tickets at tkts in Leicester Square (pronounced Lester square)
- do the two day bus tour - you can hop on and hop off any time to see specific sites
- use www.toptable.co.uk to make reservations for restaurants and see menus and reviews
Feel free to pm me if you have any questions. I live here but I also do the tourist thing regularly and love it. If you have 10 days to come, that would be great - you could do a day trip to Bath as well (which is awesome) or to see some of the local castles/further out bits of London.
Westminster Abbey is awesome. Definitely go.
We really liked the British Museum (http://www.emilyinchile.com/2011/12/nerding-out-at-the-british-museum/) and the Churchill War Rooms (http://www.emilyinchile.com/2011/12/a-visit-to-the-churchill-war-rooms/) on a recent visit - obviously both are very historical.
For food check out A Lady in London's blog (http://www.aladyinlondon.com/).

We stayed at the Kingsley which is in Bloomsbury right by the British Museum and like 5 min from Holborn tube station. Great location for what we wanted to do. There are a lot of good locations, so don't stress too much about finding the absolute perfect one.
Oh, and I forgot to say before that we did the Big Bus Tour on our last trip to London. Totally touristy hop-on/hop-off bus but interesting and well done, so I recommend it.

When we went to London, we wanted a cheaper hotel as well. You really dont spend much time in the room anyways. We stayed at Days Hotel Hounslow. It was cheap for us and the Tube was just a short walk away.
Have fun. London is such an awesome place.

Base2Stay in Kensington. We just stayed there and had a great experience. Fantastic location (for us) and very reasonable rates. Rooms are small but really nice and come with a mini kitchen.
