? regarding a degree/certificate from Virginia College

Is this college respected in the real world at all?

I've got a younger sister that is looking at going to school in the fall there for Associates in Applied Science. I know a lot of working adults go there part time while working and it's not an ONLINE school, so I was just curious.

Thanks for any input you may have.

Re: ? regarding a degree/certificate from Virginia College

  • I wouldn't do it... looks for-profit and not regionally accredited.  Do you have a community college?
  • Don't do it. This is a for-profit school that is not regionally accredited. If she were interested in continuing for a bachelor's degree, none of her credits will transfer.

As PP noted, she should look into the options at her local community college.

  • Even Wikipedia warns you about the credits not transferring!  Run away.

Virginia College is a non Regionally Accredited (credits will not transfer to Regionally accredited schools) chain of private for-profit post-secondary institutions located primarily in the Southeastern United States. It is a Proprietary college which, in comparison to traditional colleges or universities, offers classes related to specific professions. In common with other such colleges, Virginia College offers certificates, diplomas, and degrees in the areas of health and medical, information technology, business, office management, and criminal justice.[1] Virginia College also offers online degree programs.[2]
