Hawaii interisland flights

My H and I are going to Hawaii for 2 weeks in November. We have been looking at interisland flights on Hawaiian Air, Island Air and Go!Mokulele and were wondering if any of you have had any experience with these airlines. This will be our first time in Hawaii, so any tips on interisland flights (best airline, times, how far in advance to get to the airport to check-in) would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

We flew Hawaiian Air twice while in the islands. We flew from the Big Island to Maui (with full luggage) and took a day trip to Kauai with only a backpack to carry-on.

We got there an hour in advance each time. For the trip with the luggage, we needed every minute. They went through our luggage very minutely. There was some time of inter island produce ban going on at the time and they were concerned about if we had fruit in the luggage. I found it odd. They also wanted us to rearrange our bags to redistribute the weight for some reason.

For the day trip without luggage, we were stuck waiting around and did not need all that time.

We used Go! airlines 2 years ago when we flew between Oahu and Maui. They were fine, the airport in Honolulu has a separate terminal for inter-island, so it's not nearly as busy and you don't need quite as much time before your flight.

However, the one thing that we did not anticipate was that our carry-on sized luggage with the normal airlines does not fit into the overhead bins on the small planes, so we had to check them at $10/ea way. That kind of sucked because we had specifically used carry ons to avoid the damn luggage fees, but whatever, at least it was only $20 total.

This pretty much exactly, incuding the bit on the carry on luggage.

I believe Island only flies prop planes if that makes a difference to you.

You can sometimes get better prices on Hawaiian flights through PandaOnline.com, especially if you book packages.

Hawaiin is supposed to be the best. I would say that Island Air and Go are pretty equal. Both suffer delays if one of their planes is out for service. We just flew Go for 4 separate flights this last November and they were great. We were slightly delayed on one flight because the president was in Oahu but so was everyone else. My family flew Island Air and they were all delayed 3-6 hours on their flights because one of the planes was out for service. Go just got a new owner this last November so perhaps service will get better. Yes the overhead bins are tiny and they will check your carryon as you board.

We've flown with both Go! and Hawaiian Air, never had a problem with either but I prefer Hawaiian, larger and nicer cabins. I would always give yourself at least an hour before your flight for check-in.

I've flown them all. I just choose whatever's cheapest. The flights are so short it doesn't really matter. I don't think I've ever traveled with enough bags to have it be a hassle. Then again, my recent experiences have just been for weekend trips.
