Gift ideas for BIL and SIL

We're celebrating Christmas with B & SIL this weekend. SIL always goes way overboard with gifts so I feel like I haven't gotten them enough. Can you help me think of ideas for them?

So far I have candy, socks and bath products. We did buy a gift card so they can buy a scanner, but that's about it. I did buy a bracelet for SIL and an ornament for BIL.I will likely buy Starbucks cards for both of them and likely some wine/hard cider.

Ideas about them: SIL is British, both like to cook. BIL paddles for exercise. They both have fancy bikes. They just moved to a new place in Portland, but I know nothing about their place. Any ideas?

Re: Gift ideas for BIL and SIL

  • If they like to cook, that's a good starting point. Maybe head to Sur la Table or Williams Sonoma and ask for some good gift ideas? You could always put together a gift of an interesting cook book and a few cooking supplies that might be used with some of the recipes. Or maybe a gift set from the Oil & Vinegar store in Bellevue Square? I love to cook and got a set of gourmet herb-infused balsamic vinegars for Christmas and I absolutely love it. Or maybe gift them a cooking class they could take together?

Another thought, you mentioned getting them wine or hard cider. If they are into wine, most wine shops have a lot of good gift ideas if you want to form a gift around wine. If you're in Issaquah (?), check out Wine Styles. Would they enjoy being enrolled in a wine club that would ship to them? A lot of the local wineries have options for gifting a wine club membership.

way better ideas than i had. you already did a ton of for them, but something for them both like one of the gifts merilee suggested would be great. :)

  • also, we've gotten a couple of sets of penzey's spices from our neighbors for xmas we really like them, and I like to cook. I think they make a good gift. I'm not sure where to buy them locally (they are avail online), but I thought I would throw that out there so you can save it in your back pocket for next xmas.

We did Penzy's sets last year for them and they liked them! There is a Penzy's in downtown Seattle, did you know that?

  • No, but I avoid Seattle like the plague and would much rather buy them online. :o)

Don't do any spices then if you did those last year.

  • Thanks guys. You have given me some good ideas!
  • DH is a total cook/foodie and loves some of the spice blends from World Spice (https://www.worldspice.com/) Merchants. It's an awesome little store, super high quality spices (it's downtown).

Other ideas: Wine aerator or decanter. High quality chocolate and olive oil (check out Delaurentis (http://www.delaurenti.com/). ETA: also, really nice balsamic vinegar (make sure it's the real stuff, Delaurenti will have it).
