Hi Everyone! I just moved to Omaha with my husband, and I have a question. We found out last week we are expecting baby number 2, and I went to a primary care doctor, who did 2 sets of beta levels and today sent me with a referral to see a Dr. Carlson at Methodist Woman's Hospital. Does anyone see him or anyone else in his office? Is he a high risk doctor?
Where we lived previously, I was told after the loss of our first baby, I would need to see a high risk doctor, but the primary care doctor I saw here, said it wasn't neccessary right now. We lost our son, Jackson at 17 weeks, but he had stopped developing at 14w3d according to the ultrasound. I'm just unsure about him, but my SIL has said wonderful things about the hospital, but she doesn't know this particular doctor.
Any help would be appreciated! And also, how in the heck do ya'll deal with this cold?! BRR!
Re: A Hi, and a question.
Welcome to Antarctica, er, I mean Omaha!
I don't know Dr. Carlson, but I have seen Dr. Bonebrake, who handles patient who are high risk, and we liked him very much. He is at the Women's Hospital.
Wishing you the best!
Congrats on baby number 2! I have no recs for you as I'm not from Omaha, I'm from Lincoln but there will be plenty of gals that will help answer your question here.
Your last question makes me chuckle as we have had a really really great Winter so far. Even today being really cold is a fairly nice day for the kind of weather we could be getting. Bundle up, cuddle up, and stay warm!
Where you from?
And WELCOME!
Thanks for the welcome ladies and the advice on the other doctor!
I'm from southern Alabama, and it does get chilly, but not this cold! My poor dog didn't even want to come outside this morning! DH is from here, and is used to it..but I'm walking around in sweats and wrapped up in a blanket! And, he is laughing at me!

Welcome!
I think Dr. Carlson is wonderful. He isn't my OB, but is a partner of my OB. I was induced with DD (almost 2 years ago) and he was the dr. on duty during the overnight stay before my induction. He gave me a dose of one of those pills that is supposed to soften your cervix...he was super nice, gentle and has a good sense of humor.
Welcome to Omaha!! And congrats on your exciting news! We had a loss with our first pregnancy too (found at 8 weeks), but I just continued to see my regular OBGYN. I don't see Dr. Carlson (although my dr is in the same office as him - Dr. Jacobi - LOVE LOVE LOVE HER), but I've heard great things about him. I'm pretty sure he's who delivered a friend's baby two years and they loved him. I don't believe he's a high risk though if that's specifically what you're looking for. Might be worth meeting with him though and seeing if he suggests a high-risk dr or not too.
Best of luck!
We figured we would keep our appointment with him and see if he also suggests seeing a high risk or not.
Thanks for all the warm welcomes!

Welcome and congrats!
Welcome to the great white north! Ha! Despite the colder weather I hope you find that you like it here. It's a very nice place to live and raise kids.
Congrats on your exciting news. I wish you a happy, healthy, and completely uneventful 9 months. I live in Lincoln and don't know anything about the doctor that you're asking about, but I had to say hi. Stick around. We're kind of boring - but the good kind of comfortable boring. :-)
Welcome to Omaha! Yeah, it's cold. Unfortunately, it gets colder.
Congrats on the pregnancy too. Several of us have delivered at Methodist Women's and it's beautiful. Great NICU too.
Anyway, no, I don't believe Dr. Carlson is high risk. Here's a list of their MFMs and peri's:

My regular OB was concerned about the growth of my babies and immediately sent me to Dr. Foley for a better look. The entire staff at the MFM office was super sweet about staying late and seeing me with 10 minute's notice. While everyone (ahem) turned out to be wrong about the growth of my twin A, I thought the service I received was great. Dr. Foley was compassionate, professional, understanding, and thorough. Even when I freaked the f out as she told me I needed to deliver the next morning.
If you do end up seeing a high-risk doctor at Methodist Women's, I think you'll be in great hands.
Welcome! Ya, it's cold, but it doesn't last forever.
Dr. Carlson was on-call when I was in labor with my daughter, so, while I didn't see him as my regular doctor, I had several interactions with him that day. He was very nice, had great bed-side manner. I've heard nothing but great things about Dr.Jacobi...she's in the same office. There are lots of great ones in that office!
I saw Dr. Bonebrake with my DD, and he was FANTASTIC! If I could have had him as my regular OB, I would have in an instant! So, if you need a high-risk peri, I'd go with him!
Congrats and welcome!

Welcome to Omaha! I don't know anything about Dr. Carlson, but I've heard pretty great things about the Methodist Women's Hospital and most of the doctors there.
If you do end up seeing a high-risk peri, I would not recommend Dr. Robertson. My close friend recently delivered her baby at 26 weeks and had a horrible experience with Dr. Robertson. He completely dismissed her pre-eclampsia and basically almost killed her and her baby. She had great things to say about Dr. Bonebrake, however.
Welcome!
No kids here so can't help with those questions. Congrats though!
TTC #1 since 08/11 IUI#2 = BFP!
Dr. Calson is also my OB/GYN and he is nothing short of fantastic. I did not have a high risk pregnancy, but I could not have asked for a better doctor. If you decide to stick with him, I do not think you'll be disappointed in the least. Congrats, best wishes and welcome!
I'll throw in a good word for Dr. Robertson. He delivered both of my children and was very attentive with each pregnancy. I was taken to Omaha by ambulance when it was discovered that my bp was 215/125 at 29 weeks. I truely believe my doc in Iowa ignored all of my symptoms, but Dr. Robertson did not hesitate to deliver me when I began to decline from pre-e after spending 4 days monitoring at Methodist. Because of my history with my first, I also saw Dr. Robertson with my son, who was born this past February. I saw him every two weeks throughout pregnancy and began seeing him weekly for checks at 30 weeks. When my bp began to creep up slightly at 36 weeks, he set me to deliver immediately. For some, he may not have the best bed-side manner, but he's very direct, to the point, and knowledgable, in my opinion. I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone. He is in the same office as Foley and Bonebrake at Methodist Women's.
