WDYT: $5 Starbucks gift card

I have several girlfriends that live out of state.  If I remember their birthdays, I like to send them a snail mail card.  I know that I love to receive cards for my birthday, so I try to send them out.  Anyway, I was just writing one out, and I thought about maybe stocking up on $5 Starbucks cards to put in the card.  I know it's not much, but I think I would like to have a free treat on my birthday.

So, what do you think?  Is it super cheepo to give a $5 gift card?

  • Not at all, I think that's a very thoughtful idea. I'd probably put something in the card like "I wish I were close enough for a birthday coffee date, so here's the next best thing".

  • that sounds really nice, and not cheap at all! (given you're not cutting back from $50 *real* gifts.....)

costco sells them for cheaper, i think,at least they used to... but in bigger denominations, you'd just have to bring it in and buy smaller amounts with it.

    This!

  • I think it's a nice gesture. Ditto that Costco sells them, I think it's a 3 pack of $10 cards for $25.
