  • What is the best way to start running? I do not exercise beside walking and would really like to learn to run or jog. Do I just run as long as I can? Is there a good way to work up to this.

What really got me into running, was the fact that I registered for a marathon. LOL!

I would recommend a program called "Couch to 5K" if you don't have a running background. Couch to 5K is a walk run program that can help you build up your endurance to run longer distances.  I know there is an app you can download on your Ipod or phone that plays music while you're supposed to be running and tells you when to talk, etc...

And I will never recommend running on a treadmill, going outside is much better for your gait.

ETA: Also, google Jeff Galloway. he has a great walk/run program for beginning runners.

When I first started running, I couldn't even do 2 miles without walking and now I can do 10+ without walking... I used Jeff Galloway's methods when I first started out.

    Now I am addicted!! :-)

  • What are your thoughts about the Pets board?

Well, honestly, I don.t really go over there much anymore. I posted over there yesterday re: Sadie's incontinence issues, but I feel as though the dynamic has completely changed. As you know, I was there all day everyday and now I cringe when reading just the titles of the posts.

So, all-in-all, I am not much of a fan anymore, which is unfortunate. I learned so much about nutrition, vaccinations, educational toys, etc...

  • That's what I thought, I feel the same way. That was the board I would frequent the most, but it's hard to go over there. I remember when you used to post there a lot. :)

thanks, I will look into these. I would love to get passionate about it. It seems like people who run love it.

I think a lot of the old regulars feel the same way. I am friends with a lot of them on FB.

  • Craziest place you've ever had sex?

Was your X super active like Mr. K?  Is there anything you won't do (skydiving, bungee jumping etc?)

When the X and I were dating, we drove to his property, where he kept his horses and we knocked it out in the bed of his truck in the pasture.

Orrrrr, on my trampoline in my backyard! LOL.

Mr. K and I are planning to have sex on the beach at some point, but I think he is a bit shy, but it will happen some day! I hope.

X was FAR from active. The X's favorite thing to do was to watch TV and sleep. It was a relief when I found out that Mr. K doesn't even own a TV.

I will pretty much try anything once. I have already been sky diving. Bungee jumping doesn't really appeal to me, but if someone were to ask me if I wanted to go do it, I wouldn't say "no."

Going to lunch now, but will be back in a couple of hours if there are more questions. :-)

  • Have you always been an active/athletic person?  What's your favorite form of exercise?  Favorite sport to play?  Favorite sport to watch?

Yes, my poor mother had me at the age of 43 and it was difficult for her to keep up with me. At the age of 2, I was in gymnastics. As I got a little older I was on a swim team, dive team, tennis team, softball, volleyball, basketball (my favorite sport to play), track, soccer team etc..

My favorite form of exercise is SEX!  HA HA. JK.  Hmm, I would probably say that running is my favorite as I can do it anywhere, with anyone, by myself, with my dogs. I thoroughly enjoy swimming as well.

My two favorite sports to watch are professional football and baseball.

Right now I live in the south, VERY south Houston area. My favorite parts of Texas are Galveston,  Austin and the hill country (where Mr. K and I just ran our 25K).

  • Oh yes I really liked Galveston! Unfortunately, I went there with an ex-BF. He was from San Antonio, so I don't have the fondest memories w/ him, but the gulf was so warm to swim in and it was very pretty.

I looked at UTMB Galveston for grad school, and VERY nearly went there...and then the hurricane swept through just a few months after I would have started!  I've always felt like I dodged a bullet there!  Galveston was really nice, though.
