Re: ~Can't Wait~

  • I'm not can't wait but I dabble in some baking if you want some help.

  • I have marshmallow fondant in my fridge. It's currently a hard brick. I need to work with it and cut shapes. how would i go about making it workable?

  • I'd microwave it in 30 second intervals.  If it ends up getting tooo soft, you can add more powdered sugar.  I'd also roll it using a little corn starch to make it a bit more pliable if it's too soft on a crisco covered mat.  The Crisco and corn start will help bring it back to it's original consistency.

  • Also, don't use any water with it if you're going to add food coloring liquid food (if you're using an AmeriaColor squeeze color or just a basic grocery store brand).

  • I have Gel coloring but I think I"m just going to keep it white. I MIGHT tint some of it black (I'm doing a pink frosted cake with white fondant polka dots and minnie mouse head silhouettes)

  • also, can I do the fondant cut outs a day in advance to putting them on the cake or will that result in a fail?

  • Just a heads up that black marshmallow fondant will take FOREVER to make as a true black.  You need a lot of color to get it black.  It's my biggest pet peeve and for that reason, I buy the Duff buttercream fondant in black.  Makes my life so much easier and it stores nicely so you can use it in the future (if you bake a lot).

You can do the cutouts a day in advance for sure.  I'd put them in a sealed container (and make sure you put down parchment or wax paper to make it easier to pick them up).  If you are keeping the cake cold with the fondant base, they'll adhere to it when you pull it out of the fridge because of the temp change.  If you're not keeping the cake cold, you can attach with a small amount of water or clear vanilla.
