When I'm getting together with my friends in PHX at the end of the month, we are going to get tattoos.
I feel in love with this one http://pinterest.com/pin/104919866288490137/ but am not in love with the word love but love the white ink. (that's a lotta loves right there)
So I started looking around on pinterest for other ideas and came up with the word believe (this font is my fave http://pinterest.com/pin/104919866288622908/ )
But then I found one on the middle finger (http://pinterest.com/pin/104919866288622928/ ) and think I am going to do the believe on my finger.
Do you ladies have any other suggestions?
Re: Tattoo ideas
Honestly, I think they're all a little generic.
But if it means something to you, then go for it...
that's the problem...I'm a very generic person...no creativity whatsoever here.
Well, I have a plain and simple personality and I have a tattoo that I designed myself by hand when I was 18. It is very plain and simple, but I love it. It was IHO my childhood dog, I had her for 17 years, from the time I was 1 yo until I was 18yo). I didn't get the tattoo until I was 26... I wanted to really make sure it was something I wanted.
From far away it looks like a paw print, but looking at it closely it is an upside down heart and the claws are tear drops... I knew I would never get tired of it being on my body forever.
I agree with Only, but as she said, if you like any/one of them, go for it. BUT, I would try to pick something that really means something to you.
They see us rollin'...they be hatin'.
I agree with all of the above...I generally think about my tattoos about a year + before I get them. I've wanted one for over a year now and am *this* close to getting it...come on tax return!
The white ink intrigues me...I've never seen this before...
I agree that they're all a bit generic looking. Tattoos should be extremely personal because they are permanent.
Whats the reason behind you getting a tattoo? Just cause everyone else is?
When I got my latest tattoo (finished on sept 17) I had planned it for almost 3 years, tweaking the design, finding the right artist, and making sure I would love it forever.
I now have a huge pair of wings on my back with the phrase 'Alis Volat Propiis' (Latin for she flies with her own wings) because that's what I'm trying to do and it's a daily reminder and affirmation that I CAN DO IT! and I absolutely LOVE it!
Try making it more personal, look at the things you found and draw inspiration ffor them. And make sure you LOVE it, cause its yours forever
Good Luck!
Well, I guess think about what you're trying to accomplish.
Do you want the tattoo to be a reminder of something for you? Of what? Of what specifically?
If you find yourself drawn to a "generic" idea, try to think outside the box. What are all the symbols that may represent that idea? Google it. Does anything stand out to you? What do you identify with? Who do you consider yourself to be?
Maybe one of those questions will spark something in you...
So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past.
Is there a life motto or phrase that you live by and lifts you up? Tattoos don't always have to be a design. I got one that says Stay Strong. This phrase ties into so much about my life and my work. It was super important to me. I love my tattoo because of its meaning. I plan for my second one to be a quote that means a lot to me. Do something meaningful or else it's a waste.
Do you currently have any tattoos?
My first 3 tattoos were more or less generic I liked it so I got it. The first was the chinese symbol for love, so generic, I was 18 whatever. The second was 2 hibiscus flowers and the letter J on my hip with vines that run from my hipbone to my arse. Also generic but looks sexy so I don't mind that one as much. Third one is a celtic knot which is SO common its ridic but this one has meaning b/c my DH and I have matching tattoos.
After that I started having my tattoos designed to be personal and meaningful for me and let me tell you I love those way more than my other generic boring ones. I have the word "Mother" tattooed on across the top of my shoulders at the base of my neck but it is right above the tattoos I have for each of my daughters along with their baby footprints so it's part of a larger picture.
I also have "never give up" scripted on my back but that is for my aunt who lost her leg to diabetes and my cousins and I all have it tattooed for her.
Oh and I have a quote on my lower forearm that is just lyrics from a song but it has a very strong meaning for me and I wanted to be able to remind myself of it.
My point in all this being if you have a simple tattoo idea that is fine but it should have meaning for YOU. It should be something you think about long and hard before permanently adding it to your body. I would not get a finger tattoo depending on what you do for a living b/c it could be considered unprofessional. I have 12 tattoos that are all able to be hidden so I can still present a professional front. Oh and never ever walk into a tattoo shop and pick a design and get that tattoo. That is like tattooing rule #1 of things not to do. For me picking a random design online is the same concept. It should be something that speaks to YOU.
OH and don't get white ink. Some shops won't do white ink and also if you are going to get a tattoo it should be one that can be seen and shown off.
I agree with the other girls that those are pretty generic designs. That being said, it is possible to get a generic tattoo & still love it. My first (and so far, only) tattoo is a "generic" design that I loved. 11 years later and not only do I not regret it, but I still love it.
That being said, my future tattoos are already being designed and will be much more personal; I can't imagine how much more I might love them.
If it helps, I plan for one of them to be in light colored ink on my wrist, similar to those photos, but it will be a saying that is special to me (only 4 words).
So very true excellent advice.
I got my first tattoo a few months ago. I guess some people would consider it generic, but it has a lot of personal significance for me. Here's a pic.
In regards to the white ink, check with whoever is going to do it for you to find out if your skin tone is compatible with the ink. I had originally planned to get white, but the girl who did mine said it would blend into my skin too much and be pretty pointless.
I have my entire left leg done from the top of my foot to two inches below my hip. It is a design I drew when I was 16 and I am now 30. It is vines with words that are part of my statement of my life along with butterflies, daisy flowers a dragonfly, and other things that symbolize something for me. I have 13 and half hours into my leg over a 6 month period of time.
For me I felt it was vital to know in my heart of hearts that I want this forever. I visited several artists before deciding on mine. We spent hours discussing the design, the colors, the plan of attack, and small changes. My tattoo is completely original and something I have never seen on another person.
Do not get a tattoo just to get one. Get something that has meaning and purpose to you. Think about where you are getting it because it can influence things in your future. I have dealt with a lot from others because of my tattoo and I am okay with that because my tattoo is for me and no one else. It is a symbol of my life. I would not trade it for the world. Just be smart. Think about it. Talk to your artist. Do your research on the artist, the shop, and what they use for ink.
Good Luck!
P.S. I am from Phoenix and have a great artist if you need one.
