Bouncy Chair and Rock and Play

We currently have one of those bouncy chairs that vibrates for the baby (not sure exactly what they're called). Is he too little for that? Do I need to wait until he can hold his head up on his own?

Also, I've read about Rock n Plays and how great they are for sleeping for babies. I was thinking of possibly getting one. Has anyone here used one? Thoughts?

Re: Bouncy Chair and Rock and Play

  • We have the bouncy chair, Eben likes it, have S try it out.

  • DD has always had really good head/ neck control so I put her in the bouncy chair but it wasn't until Christmas (3 months) that she liked it/ played/ flt comfortable in it.

We do not have a RNP

  • I used the the bouncy chair from birth. It's reclined so there's really no need for the baby to have head control. DD hated the vibrations but it was a handy place to set her down when I needed to.

The rock n play didn't exist when DD was a baby but I want one for this next kid!

  • We've used the bouncy seat from day one, mostly for naps.  I'm not sure if that's cool with the parenting gods or not, but it worked for us.

It's also a safe place to put him down for a minute if I need to get the door, run to the bathroom, etc. and not worry about him being on the floor with the dog around.

  • RNP came out like 6 months after T was born and we had so many other things we didn't need it.

She was in the bouncy chair the day we got home from the hospital! :)  Definitely a fabulous spot for them to hang out.  T liked to have a 6 oclock snooze (6 pm, 30 min nap) so I'd stick her in there while I cooked dinner.  It was great!

  • I love the bouncy seat and have used it a lot with both kids. I put Sawyer in it at supper time so he can sit with the rest of us. I also use it in the living room while hanging out so he can sit up and see things better. It also gives him a different position other than laying on the boppy. I do not have the RNP.

  • We used the RnP! It was my budget friendly version of a bassinet/pack n play, so she could sleep by us. Delia slept there every night until she was 6 months old and learned to sit up. I was able to keep it by my bed and then if need be, I could fold it up and take it elsewhere. Which was nice because she was always able to sleep where she was most comfortable. I really loved ours.  I truly believe it kept her cozy and snug, and for what it's worth she slept better in there than she does now in her crib at 11.5 months. The only thing that bothered me was the fact that as she got bigger, it seemed that her knees were always bent, I don't believe it bothered her, but for me, I would totally want to stretch out. She couldn't roll over in there either, so the worry of her rolling over and not being able to breathe was almost eliminated. I lined ours with a large thin fleece blanket just because I didn't want the bottom to be cold under her. One more added bonus, it's not hard to rock with one hand when you are half-asleep and the baby is stirring and fussing a little. Wink

We have a bouncy seat and I used it a lot when she was smaller, especially when I wanted to take a shower and Delia was awake. She would happily sit in there and stare at the toys it came with. She spent a lot of time on us when we first had her, but I would say she was spending time in there by 1month. Not bouncing around but just sitting and looking around at the world. She still loves the musical pull frog on it, and likes to do the "froggy dance" whenever she can....Smile

This.  We LOVED the RnP-I highly recommend it for the NB stage.  Like PP said, it was really easy to fold up and slide around.  We kept her in the RnP in our room for awhile and then moved it into the nursery and she kept sleeping there.  There is a weight limit (I think) but I see your LO is only 2 weeks old so I would definitely get it!

  • He's perfect for the bouncy seat right now...the great thing about it is that you can have him hang out in it while you fold laundry, cook, etc. because it's so easy to move around the house.  As far as the Rock n Play, I've heard wonderful things but have never had one.

  • Eli loved the bouncy seat from day 1. Like others, we used it as a place for him to nap or to hang out. We didn't have a rock and play, but I do like the look of them! Maybe I can justify getting one for Ruby!

  • Layla went in her bouncer seat at about a week, I wish I had known about the RNP's before Layla was almost 2 months, she's got reflux, and I think it would have done wonders for her sleep... I think it's too late now to bother buying one she'll outgrow it i'm sure, but any subsequent kiddos will for sure have one!
