Mom-friendly ideas for Vegas?

I am spending a weekend in Vegas with my mom (she's retired, 67).  It's her first real time in Vegas.  We'll definitely walk around checking out the hotels on the strip and go see a Cirque show.  She's not into the spa thing; what else should we do there?  Any restaurant recs? (nothing loud or too clubby)

Re: Mom-friendly ideas for Vegas?

  • What does your mom enjoy?  My mom likes to see a show every night she's in vegas and have nice dinners.  We typically gamble during the day and shop.  Mom likes to go shopping after she wins.  She's not one to keep playing with the winnings, she heads out to the stores!  She also likes to hang out in the lounge, enjoy live music and have a drink.  Lounge meaning where older people hang out off the casinos.  Nothing clubby at all. Oh and comedy shows she likes too.

What does your mom like to eat?  We usually hit up a steakhouse and italitan.  Usually in whatever hotel we are staying at or what show we are heading to.

My mom lives here and is around the same age (she's also retired).  She loves the shows and also loves some of the exhibits.  She recently went to the wax museum at Venetian and the mob museum and she enjoyed both.  She also likes to eat but doesn't care for the uber expensive spots.  Some of her favorites are Max Brenner and Serendipity in Caesars, brunch at Mon Ami Gabi and the buffet at Paris, and dinner at places overlooking the strip like Diablo, Margaritaville (or again, Serendipity or Mon Ami Gabi).

Some of her favorite hotels to walk through are New York New York, Venetian and Bellagio.  She loves the flower exhibit at Bellagio and goes every few months as they change the display's theme.

You may also want to spend a day checking out the older casinos down on Fremont Street.  The limits are lower for gambling and the food is cheaper.  Plus at night they have the show in the sky--Fremont Street Experience.  My mom isn't a big gambler but she loves to play the penny slots when she goes downtown.

  • my mom likes to shop, explore/wander hotels, and lounge by the pool in Vegas.  She will also gamble a little.  I love going down to Fremont for a night, but it creeps out my mom. haha!

m+j - congrats! just saw your ticker :)

  • Definitely check out Fremont St at night. The light and music show is really cool. There's also some lounges in that area that would probably appeal to her more than on the strip.
