River Pestie

I know you said you enjoy swimming and maybe you can help me- I was wondering if you have any recs for swimming goggles? Swimming for fitness isn't something I've ever done but I signed up for adult lap swim through our community ed and it starts at the end of the month. I don't want to spend a million dollars since I don't know if I'll like it but I want something that will keep water out of my eyes and be comfortable! TIA!

Re: River Pestie

  • Ah, the infamous goggle question. I am currently STILL trying to find the right pair of goggles for me. The pair I am wearing now is the best so far.

I have TYR, the BF has Blue Seventy and really likes those.

I do not like the kind with the foam around the eye sockets, I prefer the plastic. The foam breaks down too quickly and lets air in there, which causes the goggles to fog up.

I would recommend going to a swim specialty store and not a place that sells stuff for other sports. Talk to the people at the store, they should let you try them on and get a feel for them. Ask them the proper way to adjust them so they fit you properly. Also, just because some are cheaper or more expensive than others, doesn't always mean they are worse or better.

To be completely honest though, you might have to go through a couple of pairs in the water until you can actually find a pair that really works well for you.

One more thing, don't let them talk you into the stupid "anti-fog" drops. What you will need to do before you swim (every time) is spit into the goggles, use your finger to swish the spit all around in there, dunk the goggles in the pool water once and wear them. If you do this, they shouldn't fog up for the entire duration of your swim.

If you have any more questions, please let me know!
