Disney trip in March

So we have never been and taken the kids. Is it better to stay inside the park in a resort or outside? What were your best deals? We have the money up to 5K but of course always looking to save some money. Any more suggestions?

Re: Disney trip in March

  • i prefer to stay in the park for the perks. fave is the polynesian but have also stayed at all star movies adn it was fine for a less pricey option. frankly-the shower curtain rocked-i still wish they sold them. so cute-black with tons of white stars on it.

anyway-as far as deals-i dont recall anything stellar. i am a firm believer in park hopper passes as i like to do one, then go for dinner perhaps somewhere else, different shows at night etc.. just makes it easier to plan and do and go and redo if we want.

  • Staying at a Disney property is a must. So easy to get everywhere and they think of everything. If you are looking to save money Pop Century is a great value resort. The bus ride to the parks are short, rooms are nice (small but nice), and food is pretty good. But if you have the money I would probably stay at a hotel on the monorail (like the Contemporary), especially if you will be traveling with a stroller.

Speaking of strollers, I always find it best to take your own instead of renting one,. The ones at the park are not comfortable and would be hard to sleep in, plus you have to look through a sea of matching strollers to find yours. We have taken our own on 2 different trips and have never had trouble with someone stealing it.

We took my DS when he was 9 months old and he loved it. He could go on almost all of the rides, loved the parades, and the fire works. I would also be sure to get the dining plan (if you are staying at a Disney resort. We usually just do the quick service plan to save money, while you are eating mostly chicken, hamburgers, and hotdogs we always found enough to eat.

Let me know if you have any other questions

  • I would definitely recommend staying inside of Disney World. They have a lot of different hotels for different budgets. The Pop Century and All Star Resorts are really nice and are not as pricey as the bigger ones. It is nice that they have transportation to and from the hotel from each of the parks and when you fly into Orlando, Disney has a special bus that takes you to your resort. It is worth the money I think.

You should take advantage of the Extra Hours program which is for guests staying at a Walt Disney World resort. You can stay later at the parks on certain days when it closes or in the morning the park will open early for hotel guests.

I recommend the park hopper passes to so you can come and go into any parks and if you want to visit 2 one day you can.

Just have fun and enjoy...Disney is lots of fun!! Since you are going in March too, you might want to allot some extra time...It is spring break and usually there is a lot of people there...Just bring lots of patience as well but enjoy!!

  • Definitely stay at a Disney resort.  I found a very reasonable deal for the Swan on travelocity when we went a three years ago.  Park hopper passes are good - and check on extra magic hours.
  • I preferred to stay at a time share outside of disney (but 10 mins drive by car). reason is that we had a two bedroom "villa" with complete kitchen etc.

we were able to save money by cooking and eating breakfast and packing snacks, waer and sandwiches.  once you dont mind the prep and shopping for food and cooking.  the proximity isnt an issue and we left the parks around 2 and would return around 4pm sometimes.

  • I always like staying on property.  They have 'extra magic hours' for resort guests and you can take the Disney Express to and from the airport.

  • We have 3 kids and a place at disney that is big enough was way too much so we used my parents timeshare points and got a nice 2bdroom villa. We also rented a double stroller from Orlando Strollers and let me tell you it was so worth it. We drove down and didn't want to take up the space in the car for our double stroller, it was there waiting for us at the hotel when we got there and we just left it at the front desk when we checked out.

I've stayed on property before and while it is very nice, transporation, extra park hours, etc. we just decided it was better for us to have the extra space.

  • I have stayed on and off property and I 100% prefer staying on property. It's much more convenient, especially with kids. I've stayed at various "levels" of their resorts and the most cost-friendly All Start resort was definitely fine. If it's just you, your H, and two kids I think that's plenty of space.

I don't know of any deals, though. Sorry! I would advise against the dining plan because it's a lot of food for most people so I'm not sure it's entirely necessary.
