Coming in to ask a serger question- Should I get one?
Haha...simple question. Yes or no? Basically I'm almost ready to take the plunge and get one. Let's just say I could easily be convinced. So please sway me one way or the other. I'm fairly new to sewing but I know my way around my Huskystar machine, make lots of pairs of pants, blankets, cloth wipes etc for LO. My use for the serger would be to reinforce seams on clothing and eventually diving into making cloth diapers.
Also, has anyone tried this serger? The price seems right, but I'm a total newbie to sergers so I don't really know what to look for.
TIA for any advice you have for me! I apologize if this question comes up a lot. I haven't looked through old posts for this topic.

Re: Coming in to ask a serger question- Should I get one?
Oh, how I love that serger! I was pretty much in the same position as you and got one for many of the same reasons. The 1034D has been good to me so far, although I don't ask too much of it yet (I got it threaded & working, so I just leave it be, haha!). It's GREAT for making cloth wipes, and cloth diaper inserts/soakers. SO much faster and easier. I will say that I've used it a lot more than I ever thought I would (like I serge the raw edges of new fabric before I prewash them and have no more balls of tangled thread!).
If you do get that one, I highly recommend watching YouTube videos on how to thread it. I was totally lost in the manual, but I'm also a newb to sergers, like you. Once I did it once, it was relatively easy!

I would choose the Pfaff over that model Brother. Not that the Brother is not a decent machine, but Pfaff's are really good. If that Brother is that expensive there, I would guess that the Pfaff would be a better machine for the money.
I don't know anything about that particular serger. I bought a used one off of Craigslist after I had a local shop look it over.
Also I say everyone that sews anything should get a serger it's such a nice way to finish off seams! My mom had one and after I got married I did without for about 1 year and I really missed it!

Oh that's a good point. Hadn't considered that, but I guess the Brother gets another point!
Ok this is exactly what I was hoping for. Thank you! And thanks for the tip about you tube. I'll make sure to check it out once I get it.
Btw, our babies are just about a week apart! 6 months is pretty fun, huh?
How fun! Yep, I'm loving 6 months (except for the teething thing, which I think is about to hit us).
Ah yes...DS got his first 2 teeth just before he turned 4 months. Poor little guy has pretty much been teething ever since! Ugh...hopefully it means we'll be done earlier? One can hope!
btw...ordered the serger. I can't wait to get it!
