it's official!

I didn't ovulate this morning as I the online tracker predicted I would based on my cycles. Part of my is completely relieved because us not getting pregnant may have not been our fault - it may have really just been that we were doing the deed at all the wrong times. Now, realistically, I could find out that I don't ovulate at all...which would really suck...BUT I'm hopeful!

  • Aw Jeni, I'm sorry.  Hopefully the new ovulation tracker will help you figure out what's going on and you can get some answers.  I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get some answers soon.

  • I am very hopeful for you too!  Are you charting your temps along with doing the OPK?

  • Mel, should I be? I'm peeing on a stick every morning so I'm relying solely on my body to tell me and not an online predictor...I don't know much about the whole temperature thing at all!

  • posting from my phone, so no editing...jeni, i used the opks for a while, too. they were great for me, but when i started actually religiously charting every morning, that is when i got pregnant. i would do both for as many months as you can do it. i got the walgreens pink basal body thermometer. it was pretty cheap. i also used fertility friend, and downloaded an app for it on my phone so that i could just do the temp and enter it before i got up each morning. i have to admit that i am initially excited at this new revelation, as maybe we can get this figured out and get you pregnant.  also, if you find out you arent ovulating at all, and are not comfortable taking any prescription meds to do so, read up on vitamins. there are some that promote ovulation. also, some girls on the bump said that when they made certain alterations to their diet, is when they got pregnant...gluten free, for example.  all the best thoughts and prayers i have that things will finally all come together.

  • IMHO, I think you should.  At least for a few months.  With temping you can see the dip and rise in your temps and hopefully the temps should correlate with the OPKs.  That way you know the OPKs are correct as well.  I don't know what the false positive rate is on the OPKs as I've never tried them.

  • I agree re: charting. Some people never get positive OPKs despite the fact that they are indeed ovulating, and would never know that if it weren't for charting. I charted for a few months (ended up stopping when I started with the RE) and it was a great way to learn about my body and cycles.

Mind you, OPKs are great too since they can predict when you are about to ovulate and help with timing - charting will just confirm that after the fact.

I am very hopeful for you, that once you get the timing right some magic will happen. Good luck!

  • It's funny, I'm finally starting to understand some of this TTC jargon. It sounds like these girls have some great ideas for you. I have no advice, but please know that I am crossing my fingers for you!

  • Andplusalso...

your body can gear up to ovulate, but sometimes won't.  So charting your basil FIRST THING IN THE AM temps will tell you if you actually O'd or not.

Remember if you can that every other day works best and once you get that smiley face OPK, BIO that night, the next day and the day after.  :)

    Keep us posted!!!

If you sign up with fertility friend (through mine, please?) :) it puts it all in a chart for you so you don't have to remember a THING.

  • I feel so silly right now...can you girls dumb this down for me?

OPK is what I'm doing right now, right? Ovulation Predictor Kit? Is that right?

Charting is what you do when you take your temp?

Yep you are right about everything on the OPKs

Charting is taking your temps.  Ditto Barb and Danie about using Fertility Friend as it's pretty simple and easy to use.

If you haven't yet, I recommend reading Taking Charge of Your Fertility (TCOYF).  It has GREAT information.  I checked it out from the local library so you could probably do the same.

Yep!  And if I were you, I'd pee on a stick (POAS) twice a day.  When it catches your LH surge, that means after that in 24-48 hours you will ovulate.  (maybe)...so I'd do one in the AM and one in the mid afternoon to make sure you catch the surge!

If you were temping, your temps would be going up at that LH surge and when you did ovulate, it will stay elevated.  If you keep taking your temps then, you'll know if AF is going to start because your temps will go back down.

Fertility Friend has a charting course that you can take that explains everything and like Mel said, TCOYF is the best book, ever.  This way you'll know if your ovulating because if your not,  you won't get pregnant.

  • Sorry I am way late to this conversation but I just wanted to add that we got pregnant our first cycle using OPK's and I never charted. I think if it had taken us more then a few cycles with OPK's I would have started, but I thought I would have a really hard time taking my temp. at the same time every morning. If you decide not to temp my advice would be to watch your OPK's closely and if they start getting darker, start doing two even three a day because like other people said you can miss the ovulation window and some people never get a completely positive OPK.

Also like you, I realized before using OPK's that fertility friend was miscalculating when I ovulated, and we just got really lucky when we found out and fixed our timing. :)

Good Luck!! Sending you lots of baby making vibes!!
