Animal Shelter/Humane Society ?

Do shelters accept barely used dog toys?

I've got two huge bags full of toys that KJ barely even touched - I'm cleaning out my basement today and separating things into donate or toss piles.  I have a small dog crate (anyone need it?) that I was going to donate to the Humane Society and was just wondering if they would take all of these toys too - they are in perfect condition, but I am sure that they have her scent on them - think they would take them?

Re: Animal Shelter/Humane Society ?

  • I think they'd take them if they're in good condition, but you can call and ask. I don't think the scent part matters. Dogs get adopted and then they reuse the toys, so they certainly have other dogs' scents on them.

  • after our dog died we took her things to our local shelter. they had a list of things they needed. we donated:

    collar

    two leashes

toys (mostly never used, she thought too highly of herself to play and especially not to play with toys made for dogs...the disgrace!)

    food

dog bed (fairly new, we'd purchased it in february, she died april 4th)

    brush
