DH was just at an Exxon, paying for gas inside, when the attendant asked for his Drivers License and proceeded to write DH's DL#, Expiration Date and Date of Birth on the receipt for his gas...DH asked why they needed that information and the attendant said "to protect us and to protect you, it's our policy" - it weirded DH out so he told them to cancel his transaction, asked for the receipt they'd written his info on and left.
I haven't experienced a gas station asking for this type of information, either. I know some states have a thing where they scan your drivers license to cut down on "pump and runs" - but in those cases the attendant doesn't see your information- and if you're paying in advance...I don't see how the pump and run issue would apply.
Anyone know something DH and I don't? Or is this as odd as it seems? lol
Re: Providing your Drivers License # When Paying for Gas?
That does seem weird. I probably wouldn't have given my info and would have wanted to call someone about it. Now, who I would call, I don't know.

Yeah, I'm with y'all - it just doesn't sit well with me. I've certainly encountered the situation where, if paying by credit, I've been asked to show my drivers license just to make sure that the name matches the credit card I'm using - that's understandable...but taking that information down is not something I've heard of.
I'm glad DH got his info back and got out of there!
I've never heard the stats on the cars being stolen at the gas station but it is the number one place to use a stolen cc. Especially because if you pay at them pump and it's declined the theif isn't face to face with someone who can id them.
