Complexion whitening

Which sounds like I have Michael Jackson type issues, but I don't know what else to call it. I've seen a couple of these advertised lately, creams that are supposed to lighten up age spots or discoloration from acne. I have the latter, red spots that just live on my poor face for at least 3 MONTHS after the blemish is long gone. I was just wondering if anyone has ever tried any of these?

  • I haven't tried any of those types of products, but I know Clinique makes some kind of serum (and I believe a foundation as well) that are meant to fade age spots and blemish scars and even out your complexion.

It looks like the Clinique one isn't all it's cracked up to be:

  • Have you seen a dermatologist? I would do that first before using an OTC cream that might not do the job. It sounds like inflammation to me (thus the redness), or it could be scarring that hasn't healed completely. Those creams (like the Clinique one I think you're talking about) are more for skin pigmentation issues (freckles and dark spots), not redness.

  • Picks - yes, I saw a dermatologist a few months ago. I get the lasting red spot usually after having had one of those painful deep blemishes, the kind with no whitehead. His response was since it was related to my cycle, the only way to prevent them was to go on BC (no thanks), or if I had an important event he could do the expensive cortisone shot (and since I get 1-2 every month, that's a no go).

  • did the dermatologist not suggest any other options, topical or oral?
  • Not really. I already have a gel for my rosacea that only sort of helps and doesn't have much affect on the spots. I have a steroid ointment he said I could try but when I used that it did something weird and now I have a dark purple spot where that one was 3 months ago. • I'm whitey-white...eggshell white... redhead... so, no, I've never looked at any prodcut for whitening.

  • My acne has slowly started improving as I've gotten older, but I still get breakouts that cause the spotting and scaring you are talking about. The only acne I get now are those deep painful one's you are describing. They suck. Last summer I started getting microdermabrasions and they have made a big difference. Have you tried those? Also, I no longer consume any dairy products and I attribute that to my skin clearing up. Maybe you can try eliminating dairy for a while to see if that helps.
