Ok, this is F'ed up to the highest degree

I have to worry about my kid being in school because he's a Jew at a Jewish school. There have been FOUR synagogues in the immediate area that have been attacked, the latest being a "Molotov Cocktail" being thrown through the Rabbi's window. I just got an email about "increased security" (and the Molotov Cocktail) from his school and I'm just so disgusted amongst other feelings.

  • That's horrible.

  • Yikes!  I hope it's just the work of one assface, and that they catch him soon.

This is the scary letter I got. I mean, really? Not at the letter but that this is happening. Happening in a place where you'd think people would be used to Jews being here and begrudingly or not would have accepted it. But, hello, my KID. I'm not taking him out of school so we just get to live in fear. Goodie.

    To the synogogue family:

Unfortunately, we are all aware of the recent attacks on four Synagogues in Bergen County. Tuesday's attack was by far the most serious incident in which a Molotov cocktail was thrown into the residence of Rabbi Schuman. Fortunately, there were no serious injuries.

We are following the progress of law enforcement investigation into these incidents. Last night at the UJANNJ's Jewish Leadership Security Briefing, we learned of the steps being taken by the Bergen County Prosecutor to investigate the case. The Bergen County Sheriff's Office, the County Police Department and Municipal law enforcement personnel are vigorously pursuing leads as they are developed. The New Jersey Office of Homeland Security is monitoring their efforts and assisting where needed and federal government resources are also being brought in.

Our professional staff and our volunteers are actively addressing our congregation's security needs. The Police Department has already increased its patrols in our area and sweeps our parking lot several times each day. We have given the Police Department our Shabbat and weekend schedule to help in monitoring. Our executive board and staff will be meeting with Police Department representatives on Tuesday morning. We are redoubling our efforts to make sure that our lights, alarm and phone systems are working as effectively as possible and, as needed, are upgrading this equipment. We are meeting to improve our internal procedures for security so that our staff, volunteers and students are fully protected in going about our congregation's business.

Many of you have expressed concern about security at the Jewish Center. We want to assure you that we share these concerns and that we are doing everything in our power to address them. We wish to emphasize that we are not cancelling any events. We will adhere to our schedule of religious services, educational programs and events. Our Office, our Religious School and our Nursery School are "open for business". This is in accord with the strongest recommendations of the County's law enforcement professionals. We will not be scared into closing our doors by these attacks.

On the contrary, we will carry on in the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. - whose birthday we will soon celebrate - who reminded us that we must walk together, people of all faiths and backgrounds as we pursue creating a world of justice and peace.

    Shabbat Shalom.

    Rabbi and President

  • This is just sickening. I'm so sorry this is happening.

I can't believe this shiiit happens. I'm sorry you are dealing with it now.

  • What year is this?  Good grief.  So sorry to hear this.

I should send this to my FB "friend" and ask if he still thinks there is no antisemitism in my county. Or anywhere for that matter. Because anyone that believes it doesn't exist in their area is living in a dream.

I mean really. Never mind being a parent and the things you're nervous about ro just think about in a general sense, like abduction or getting hurt or whatever, it's JUST FOR BEING JEWISH.

  • So sad and scary.  Effingbigotedassholepsychos.

  • HOLYFVCKINSH!T.  I am shocked that this is happening and scared for you guys. I cannot believe that there is such hate in this world.
  • I'm sorry, TSD. People really do suck.
  • My first thought:  It's all those damn jew babies running the banks and Hollywood these days!!!  ;)

Seriously though, that's terrible.  WTF is wrong with the world.

  • Ugh, TSD. Sorry you're dealing with that. People really do suck sometimes.
I'm pretty sure it's pronounced your mom's a moron and if you didn't have your name legally changed by the age of 22, so are you. Unless you're from another continent. -Groomz
  • Oh my gosh TSD. That's horrifying. Ugh.

I can't even comprehend what is going on these people's heads. Random: I always wonder if they ever think back to all the movies and books they saw/read as a kid, and suddenly realize that they are one of the villains.

  • Shiit like this scares me so much. Miles is at a Jewish DC and It makes me ragey to think that we have to live in fear for his safety. On the one hand, I want to show my defiance and courage in the face of hate and evil. On the other hand, I don't need a Kristallnacht to tell me which way the wind is blowing. We'll be getting out of Dodge long before then. I ain't going down like that, yo.

  • Dammit, TSD I'm so sorry. No one should have to be in fear like that. I hope they catch the assholes soon.

I had a professor who claimed that America ( yeah!) doesn't have "real" facists the way Europe does. Yeah, tell that to my friend whose dads were murdered by white supremacists.

Jens, from what I heard of the testimony, they think they're the goddamn heroes and that everything is a huge conspiracy to keep them from making the world "better". It's twisted as all get out.

Sometimes I wonder if scientists have never seen a sci-fi movie before. "Oh yes, let's create a super species of deer. NOTHING COULD POSSIBLY GO WRONG." I wonder if State Farm offers a Zombie Deer Attack policy. -CaliopeSpidrman
  • God this makes me angry. WTF is wrong with people.
    image Guess who?
  • I teared up reading that letter, too. That is so scary, TSD.

Yeah well I wish it wasn't reality. But in some ways it's good to be reminded how much Jews are still hated because when you get too comfortable you relax. At least they beef up security and make it more of a priority. Not that it isn't- there are police at every high holy day service. But i like that they are patrolling the parking lot in the daytime now. People have asked on the Nest why police are at services- outside on the street- they really thought they were directing traffic

Im just so angry right now though.

  • Just wrong in so many levels. Stupid *** are always stupid ***.

I say make molotovs and have em ready. If you see the *** have at it! (then of course you would probably be jailed for lighting him on fire in the first place BUT im sure they'll let you free since you made everyones lifes safe again)
