cleaning schedule for large house?

Hi,

We moved to a larger home a couple months ago and I'm drowning. I can barely keep up with the clutter and daily tasks nevermind the deep cleaning. I'm thinking I need some kind of schedule to keep me on track.

I have seen some cleaning schedules which worked when I lived in my older home because it was a lot smaller and I was able to get the floors done quickly, our bathrooms were a lot smaller, etc. Now I have a much larger area to cover and I can't seem to keep up with it. Can anyone help??

Thanks!

  • I like flylady.com for her basic ideas around declutteriing and routines that you do daily.

Her basic premise is that you focus on one room/area a week, so by the end of the month you've gone round the whole house.

She's also big on delcuttering, which you said was an issue for your home, and basiclaly getting rid of it.

then there's daily tasks and weekly tasks to keep you on top of the basic chores like laundry and dishes.

  • Thanks, I'll have to revisit her. I tried her a couple years ago but I was getting so many emails it was overwhelming.

Yeah the emails do get to be a bit much, as do her, "your products are so amazing testimonials."

But I found her basic principles really useful for getting me into a good routine. Now I largely do my own thing, and just use her emails as reminders here and there.

You can get a condensed weekly version of her emails.

  • Now, I don't have a large house, but here's what I've done....

I broke down the week so that every weekly task was done by the end of it and on days I knew I'd have more time, I inserted bigger, more rare chores.  Also, I'll combine one more time consuming task with some smaller tasks to balance out the evening.  Also, laundry day is great because in between loads, I can get little things done and out of the way.  I print out the weekly/monthly schedule and I hang it up in the kitchen so that I don't forget what needs to be done each month.
