I need some creative negotiating help!
I interviewed yesterday for a position that I really want and I think I'll get an offer (they called my references, asked me to stop in on Monday and "meet the team") ... but it pays considerably less than what I make now.
We've run the household numbers, and we'd be able to swing it on the lower salary, but I know I'm worth more. I know I can prove to them over time that I'm worth more, but are there things I can ask for up front that might sweeten the deal some for me?
I already plan to ask for an extra week of paid vacation. What else could I ask for that wouldn't completely put them off and make me look super greedy??
Re: compensation outside of salary
Employee contribution amount toward health insurance; employer paying premium or part of the premium for spouse and/or dependent in addition to the employee's premium; education or training benefits; paid parking or better parking space; flex time; occasional work from home; improvements to your office space (some decoration or new furniture if it needs it); employer paid gym membership; employer paid life or disability insurance policy premium
These are just some ideas and obviously don't ask for all of it
Good luck!
telecommuting
performance bonuses
extra days off (as you already mentioned)
prime office or work space location
