Is this silly?

So, I have a mentor at work that I really love. She has been really helpful this year with making sure that I find my place in the department, gives me great advice for work-related issues, and has been really great in helping me choose an OB and general pregnancy issues. I want to do something nice for her. I was thinking of making a cross-stitch anatomically correct heart (don't laugh) because I found an adaptable pattern for it, and she expressed interest in a similar (non cross-stitch) picture in someone else's office. Is this totally dorky? I could just get her a restaurant gift certificate or something, but I want to do something that would be more lasting.
We, we like to party.

  • I think she would love that! If it were me, I know I would be so touched and think it was awesome

  • I think it sounds lovely.

  • Ok, thanks. I also didn't want her to think it would be weird.

  • I would be very touched if someone did that for me.
  • It would be weird, if she hadn't expressed interest in the other picture.  If you were all "here's a random anatomically correct heart", that would be a little bit weird.

  • I think it's very thoughtful. She will love it.

I think it sounds really personal and great. Hope we get to see it before you give it to her though.

The fact that they're physicians makes it totally not weird.

One of my cohort students gave my graduate mentor a 6 ft long handmade fabric model of the large intestine, complete with detachable polyp. Seems totally appropriate to me. :)

  • Not weird at all given the sit. but then I have a 'thing' for anatomical body parts in art.. so who knows.

    This is freaking awesome.

It might be weird to give someone a random picture of a heart, but they're basically our livelihood, so it's not strange from that standpoint.  I'm just totally awkward at expressing emotion, and I didn't want to do something that would be inappropriate.  And I need to start it now if I want to give it to her before I leave.

  • I think it's a great idea.
